Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center. High-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients will also be housed, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000 square foot hospital which also features twenty surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. Responsibilities* The Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 24 bed ICU that cares for patients from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) services. Medical problems most often treated on this unit include: thrombectomies, post-operative craniotomies for brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, intracranial hemorrhage/hematomas, severe head and/or spinal cord injuries, increased intracranial pressure, caring for and assessing free flaps, doppler usage, tracheostomy care/management, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Myasthenia Gravis, Status Epilepticus, and Guillain-Barre syndrome. The Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) has been awarded the AACN Beacon Award for excellence! Required Qualifications* Current Michigan RN license Minimum of one (1) year ICU/Critical Care RN experience within the last five (5) years. Neuro-Trauma ICU experience preferred with nursing care in post-operative patients, overseeing care for intubated patients, managing external ventricular drains (EVDs), seizure management, and arterial line supervision. This is a rigorous and extensive orientation which requires personal motivation and dedication as a self-directed learner. Outstanding interpersonal skills as evidenced by peer feedback, annual evaluations and demonstrated during the interview process. Training and education of the Survival Flight Nurse will include but is not limited to the ten Core Training Modules: Introduction to the Transport Environment, Safety and Operations, Basic and Advanced Airway Management, Emergency and Trauma Care, Ventilator Management of the Critically Ill Child and Adult, Pediatric Critical Care, Neonatal Critical Care, High Risk Obstetrics and Introductory Radiology and Diagnostics. The Initial orientation Training Period will be between nine (9) and twelve (12) months, depending on specific needs and progress. Responsibilities* The basic function and responsibility of the Survival Flight Nurse is to provide care, treatment, and appropriate life support and/or stabilization of chronically or acutely ill and/or injured patients across the lifespan. The nurse collaborates with other health team members and associated resource persons to provide continuity in patient care. The nurse participates with health team members for problem solving in area management. These patients require care at regional referral and / or ACS designated level I or II Trauma Centers. The flight nurse collaborates with other health team members and associated resource persons to problem solve, implement treatment modalities and interventions to maximize patient outcomes. For these reasons it is vital that Survival Flight nurses are committed to safe operations, premier customer service and clinical practice, and leadership in education. Required Qualifications* Current licensure to practice as a RN in the State of Michigan Currently working as a full time RN (at least 0.9 FTE or greater) in a Regional Referral Critical Care Unit, Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department, or Flight Nurse for the previous twelve (12) months. A MINIMUM of four (4) years total (1.0 FTE) of RN experience as a permanent employee (does not include per diem, temporary or nursing float pool experience) in the following areas: A minimum of one (1) year (1.0 FTE) of adult or pediatric ICU (does not include Neonatal ICU) experience as a RN in a referral center / tertiary care center is require Emergency Department experience in a Level I trauma center/regional referral center. Cleans, stocks, and organizes clinic spaces (exam and supply rooms), Maintains inventory and may manage PAR levels when appropriate. Processes forms and in basket messages through MiChart. May assist with prescription or procedure prior authorizations within scope of practice. Disinfects and maintains equipment between cases according to Instructions for Use, policies, and guidelines; removes equipment not needed for next case and stores it appropriately. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion at U-M Health Operating Room Unit will feature 20 operating suites with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation supporting the following specialties: neuro-anesthesiology, neurosurgery (including MR/OR), oral maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, spine, and general thoracic. Responsibilities* Scrub and circulate in the Pavilion operating rooms assigned under the clinical supervision of a Charge Nurse, Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Nursing Director as appropriate. To rotate shift and accept call as assigned by Clinical Manager/Clinical Nursing Director. To assist in the teaching activities of the Operating Room. Required Qualifications* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan. Two (2) years recent, within the last three (3) years, circulating and scrubbing experience as a RN. Ability to work with a non-responsive patient population. Call commitment with 30 minute response time.
