Patients are admitted directly from the ED, the Ross Trauma Admitting Area, or the operating room. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures, and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Many patients cared for in the TSICU are poly-trauma patients, with injuries involving more than one body system. Common surgical patients include those undergoing Whipple procedures, esophagectomies, gastrostomies, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners, resident physicians, and attending trauma surgeons. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapists and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the trauma patient's care. Serves as a clinical and operational leader for the site, supporting change management, communication, and strategic initiatives that advance pediatric ambulatory care. Qualifications BSN required Master’s in nursing or related field preferred. Five years clinical experience required, preferably at least one year in pediatrics. Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice; knowledge of management theory and change process. Previous Management Experience Required.
