Actively participate in the development of residents’ master treatment plans with the treatment team. Practice within the general policies, philosophy, and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the hospital. Provide nursing care in a therapeutically effective manner demonstrating sound clinical and professional judgment and competency. Participate in community meetings and group therapies when assigned. Assess unit milieu and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for residents, family members and staff. Complete resident rounds in a timely manner in accordance with requirements and accurately document resident observations. Provide ongoing resident/family education relative to each resident. Accurately enter medication and treatment orders in the EHR and maintain medication administration record (MAR). Accurately and safely administer prescribed medications and treatments to residents using correct methods of administration. Evaluate and document resident response to medication regimen and identify needs to administer PRN medication and document effectively. The Birth Place is an 18-room Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit delivering family-centered care for over 1,000 births annually, staffed by a multidisciplinary team and supported by advanced monitoring and best practices. The Level II Special Care Nursery cares for infants 32+ weeks, including those with respiratory or feeding needs, in collaboration with Mass General and Boston Children’s specialists. The 8-bed Pediatrics unit serves newborns through adolescents with a range of medical and post-operative needs. Together, these departments offer a dynamic, collaborative environment where float nurses deliver high-quality, compassionate care across the full continuum of maternal and child health. About the Job The MCH Clinical Float Pool RN is an experienced registered nurse who provides flexible coverage across multiple units within the Maternal Child Health division. The float pool nurse does not have a fixed unit assignment -- floating within the division is the primary function of this role. Float pool nurses are selected for this role based on clinical depth in their home specialty, a genuine comfort with variability, and willingness to maintain competency across multiple care settings. What You’ll Do: Float within assigned units on most scheduled shifts as directed by the staffing supervisor or charge nurse. Provide safe, competent, independent nursing care in each credentialed unit -- functioning as a full staff nurse, not in a support or observation capacity. LDRP Track: Provide intrapartum, postpartum, triage, and immediate newborn care in LDRP. Provide stable Level II neonatal care in SCN. SCN Track: Provide stable Level II neonatal care in SCN.
