JOB TITLE : PACU RN GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Assists in provision of nursing care to patients in a fast paced Total Joint Replacement Ambulatory Surgical Center. Assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and centers policies. The center operates Monday through Friday and shifts start at 0530 or 0730, the closing shift stays until the last patient is discharged (on average 4pm, however can be longer depending on patient acuity). We have two operating rooms and serve 7-8 patients per day, usually with only one surgeon. Seven preop/pacu bays are assigned to a patient for use in both phases of care, and the nursing staff adjust their assignments accordingly. Majority of patients receive spinal anesthesia in preop and during recovery require post op ambulation of 100 feet. Discharge teaching requires attention to detail as these are all outpatients. Performs Other duties as required. Overview Kelemen North 7 is a 23-bed medical surgical/telemetry unit specializing in the care of traumatically injured patients. Patients with injuries that are stable but require ongoing close monitoring are admitted to this unit directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients are also admitted to the unit as they are downgraded from the Trauma/Surgical ICU or the Trauma Step-Down Unit. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse). Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) Certain specialties may require advanced certification (i.e., ACLS, NALS, PALS).
