Applicant will be considered for one of the 2 teams: Surgical Subspecialties and Trauma/Emergency General Surgery. There is opportunity to cross-cover and work on both teams. An ideal applicant will be effective in collaborating with physicians and other health care teams; demonstrate solid knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine; and be able to make responsible clinical decisions within the scope of their practice. The PA/NP is expected to demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care and ensures compliance with patient related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards and recommendations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Day-to-day responsibilities include: · Conducting histories and comprehensive physical exams to evaluate patients for surgery. · Performing daily rounds on surgical inpatients and provide continuity in care · Ordering and interpreting tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, performing patient education, preparing discharge plans, prescribing medications. · Comprehensive and clear documentation of patient progress (using EPIC as the EMR) · Performing bedside procedures (ex: I&Ds; insert/remove/manage tubes, drains, and catheters, wound care, casting/splinting; arthrocentesis, etc.) · Consulting and collaborating with medicine and/or other specialists as needed · First-assisting in the OR: Specialties including General, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Colorectal, Gynecologic, Thoracic, Breast, Plastics, ENT, Urology, and Vascular. Prior experience in Robotics is highly preferred · Admissions and surgical consultations · Responding to Trauma Activations, if covering the trauma service. · Communicating and coordinating patient care with nurses, case management/social work, PT/OT, and consulting teams. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT · The NP/PA continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency. · The NP/PA serves as a clinical resource for new house staff and may provide service specific orientation pertinent to clinical education · Consistently demonstrates high reliability organizational behaviors through reporting safety events as well as near misses. · The NP/PA continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency. · Maintains all employee requirements determined by hospital policy. · The NP/PA may serve as a clinical preceptor for NP/PA students and other health care professionals and may serve as a mentor to pre-PA/NP candidates. · The NP/PA may collaborate on research, quality assurance and performance improvement projects, and assist with the formation of protocols that will be applied to clinical practice or further their educational and clinical expertise. EXPERIENCE · On the job training provided. Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise Full-Time Medical Assistant 3X 8 AM - 4:15 PM Scope of Duties: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams within the Westchester office and supporting the Ortho Now program (Registration/Front Desk, Physician Practice, Research, EMG, TMS) Escorting patients to exam rooms and preparing them for examinations, reviewing patient statuses and assisting in obtaining patient data required for the rooming functions in Epic Support the department by assisting the physicians, nurses and other personnel by obtaining vital signs, lab specimens (skin biopsy, venipuncture) and EKG’s as needed Preparing specimens for the lab and ensuring hand-off to courier Foster efficient patient throughput, deliver excellent customer service, and establish and maintain an organized professional environment. Assist the physician in treatments and procedures and ensure physician orders are completed in a timely manner. Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Participate in our supportive and team-oriented environment. Prepare patients for exams and orient patient/family to the environment Assist with disinfecting exam rooms and other clinical work space between patient use Assist patients with wayfinding and transport (e.g., wheelchair) throughout the site Assist in managing patient information, uploading CD images & making copies of pertinent exams Assist with patient rooming tasks (i.e., medical history, vital signs, pulse oximeter readings, height/weight, temperature, etc.) Assist with stocking exam rooms Ensure patient care areas are neat and presentable Provide exceptional customer service to all patients, visitors, and staff Respond to patient, visitor, and staff inquiries Additional responsibilities as directed Minimum Requirements High School diploma or equivalent to at least one year of experience as , Medical Assistant, or previous member of armed medical corps BLS Certification Non-Discrimination Policy Hospital for Special Surgery is committed to providing high quality care and skilled, compassionate, reliable service to our community in a safe and healing environment.
