Position Summary The Inpatient Gastroenterology Consult Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral member of a busy inpatient gastroenterology consult service caring for children with a wide range of gastrointestinal, nutritional, feeding, and enteral access needs. Working closely with GI faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, dietitians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the NP evaluates and manages hospitalized patients across Boston Children’s Hospital. The GI consult service provides exposure to a broad and complex spectrum of pediatric gastroenterology, offering an opportunity to develop clinical expertise alongside experienced colleagues and trainees. The NP participates in daily rounds, develops and implements evidence-based care plans, coordinates diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and supports safe transitions of care. Position Details: Primary Location: 275 New Lancaster Road, Leominster, MA Department: Medical/ Surgical Specialties Schedule: Full time, 38.75 hours/weekly, Monday through Friday, scheduling between 8:30AM - 5:00PM Primary Responsibilities: Functions within a designated clinical team Obtains and documents relevant patient information regarding health status; intervenes within scope of practice and escalates issues to the appropriate provider Provides standard patient education under the direction of an established documented plan of care Obtains vital signs and other department-based testing Administers prescribed medications and treatments as directed and in accordance with organizational policy and procedures Starts and monitors intravenous infusions. Informs RN or clinician of IVs that need mixing Documents all patient care activities, observations, actions and patient outcomes in electronic patient medical records within the established organizational timeframe Explains procedures to patients to facilitate understanding Performs the necessary set-up for examinations and procedures available to support the clinician and patient Communicates any pertinent information to the relevant members of the health care team verbally and/or through medical record.
