Summary To provide coverage for patient care for Emergency Medicine at Ben Taub General Hospital. This is a critical piece of the clinical service that will help maintain coverage within the Emergency Center. The physician assistant is expected to demonstrate competence in following areas: Productivity needs to meet or exceed standards set by the Section and/or Department. Keep up with continuing medical education as per college and section requirements. Renewing and meeting all required licenses and certification requirements. Familiarize with EPIC- electronic medical records and document all patient encounters as needed. Complete all documentation in a timely manner so that billing and other administrative tasks can happen smoothly to ensure a robust operational system. Maintaining credentialing at all times to ensure practice is not disrupted. Job Purpose Provides advanced patient care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Our Hospice Nursing Aides may assist patients' family members in caring for their terminally ill relatives by instructing them on how to go about performing basic health-care routines. Nursing Aides consult on a regular basis with their supervising registered nurses in terms of keeping hospice team members apprised of our patients' progression and the families' needs. Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes. The 4 cohorts are: 9 LT: Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients. 12 LT: Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home. As a PICU nurse, you will work with patients in each cohort.
