Duties Description Independently performs the duties below: Conducts nursing assessments; and obtains, records, and updates individuals’ health information and vital signs, using standard instruments and procedures. Maintains and updates charts, records, and other documentation, consistent with agency, State, and federal requirements; and may collect data and perform related activities to support medical research. Monitors inventories and ensures that standards for medications, solutions, supplies, and equipment are maintained to meet nursing care needs. Provides clinical supervision and instruction to Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff in completing nursing care tasks. Acts as liaison to outside agencies and providers to ensure continuity of care and the necessary follow-up for individuals; advocates for individuals’ needs; and may provide instruction to providers on individuals’ discharge plans. May perform the full range of supervisory duties over Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff; provide information to Registered Nurse Supervisors; and prepare or contribute to the preparation of reports and performance evaluations for lower-level staff involved in nursing care activities. POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES may include but are not limited to: Provide nursing services to assigned caseloads; This RN will provide nursing oversight to approximately 20 developmentally disabled individuals who are medically and/or have increased psychiatric needs. This RN will also provide the OPWDD required RN oversight for approximately 40 unlicensed staff regarding individual- specific nursing procedures such as completing assessments, conducting weekly site visits for assigned caseload of homes, nursing triage to unlicensed staff and individuals, clinical supervision of assigned tasks to unlicensed staff, development of plans of nursing services, monitoring of staff’s completion of directives, Staff medication certification/re-certifications, and in-servicing, Medication error tracking and remediation and Medication audits. P erforming interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels. P erforming interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period. P erforming interventions to protect patient from infection. M anaging patient’s other co-morbid conditions as applicable. M anaging patient’s fluid as prescribed. A ssessing knowledge level of patient or designated support person and providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain and comfort management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure; I nvolving patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process. P rotecting patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy. P roviding age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice; and P roviding consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting. Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes. Transfer care as needed. Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care. Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions. One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience required Medical / surgical nursing experience Current state licensure to practice within good standings. Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification. Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification. Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
