Participates with the multidisciplinary team regarding program development and evaluation. Participates, as appropriate, in studies conducted by nurses and multidisciplinary researchers. PROMOTES THE DEVELOPMENT OF NURSING STAFF Develops, conducts, and participates in formal and informal staff development programs in area of expertise. Contributes to development of policies, procedures, protocols, and/or patient educational materials as appropriate in area of expertise. Participates in academic programs, as negotiated. Utilizes and disseminates evidence based practice and research findings. This position description may also include advanced practice nurses certified as nurse practitioners (NPs) who DO NOT hold core privileges. NPs working under this CNS position description WILL NOT: Initiate referrals to physicians or other healthcare professionals; interpret diagnostic tests; obtain consents for treatment; obtain history & physical; order and perform consults; order blood and blood products; order diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities; order pharmacological agents diagnose based upon history & physical exam & clinical findings; order/initiate tests, treatments and interventions; prescribe medications; write admission, discharge or transfer orders and corresponding plans of care.
