Job Description The Adult Infusion Centers at Mt. Zion and Mission Bay service the Medical Oncology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non-oncology infusion needs of patients at UCSF. The treatments include but are not limited to chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The centers collectively consist of over 100 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, and Practice Coordinators. The Outpatient Infusion Clinical Nurse II delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult infusion outpatient population. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer and non cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. We have two main campuses serving children and their families, one in Oakland and one in San Francisco, as well as satellite locations throughout Northern California. UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco and Children's Hospital Oakland have together created Northern California's largest network of pediatric providers and are the only hospitals in San Francisco and the East Bay dedicated solely to children. The Nurse Practitioner will serve as a frontline provider for Hematology, Oncology & BMT patients at Benioff Children’s Hospitals in San Francisco and Oakland providing care in 10-12-hour AM & PM shifts. Exceptions will be made to flex to outpatient when the operational need of the department dictates. The Nurse Practitioner will act as an independent member of the team, taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care for inpatient pediatric Hematology, Oncology & BMT patients. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated. Evaluates patients’ response to treatments and initiates alternative treatment approach, when indicated. Assesses physical, emotional and social factors that may affect the patient’s rehabilitation. Functions as a consultant to the staff for patients with complex draining wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, and skin problems related to fecal and urinary incontinence. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, nursing leadership meetings, hospital-wide committee (Infection Control and QI), and maintaining high level of competence in WOCN specialty. Verbalizes and/or demonstrates knowledge of clinical information and practices essential to provide age-specific care for the infants through the geriatric population. Develops and administers departmental standards of performance, policies and procedures. Assists in making purchasing recommendations for ostomy and wound care supplies. Assists in planning and implementing program, staffing, supervision and program development. Assists in developing and implementing a program of professional and community contacts.
