Essential Duties And Responsibilities Develops, establishes and implements the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of the Nursing Department. Organizes the Nursing Department to delineate authority, functional responsibilities and lines of communication. Coordinates functions of nursing services with other disciplines, collaborates with administrative staff, other department staff and representatives of allied groups in planning services. Determines staffing requirements in relation to patient care standards and develops procedures to maintain an adequate, competent nursing staff. Maintains a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service provided for patients. Maintains up-to-date policy procedure manuals for all nursing units and evaluates their effectiveness. Establishes an effective system of clinical and administrative nursing records and reports. Directs the preparation of the personnel, equipment and supply budgets for the Nursing Department. Directs the development and implementation of orientation, training and continuing education programs for nursing personnel. Initiates and participates in studies and research projects. Utilizes findings to improve patient care and administrative services. Plans for and coordinates use of clinical facilities by colleges and other agencies for nursing education purposes. Minimum Qualifications Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and, A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or, A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
