Overview Directs the clinical and administrative functions of assigned services to ensure high quality, effective patient care and effective use of labor and non-labor resources. Directs the development of short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the department in collaboration with members of the medical, administrative and patient services leadership. Directs the development of the departmental operating, capital and program budgets, ensuring compliance with Maimonides Health’s budgetary guidelines. Director of Nursing (Non-Union) Heart & Vascular Full Time / 5 days a week / Evenings Responsibilities CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.* Supports departmental goals and objectives by developing and implementing divisional goals, developing special programs in conjunction with divisional leadership and preparing annual and other reports as required. 2.* With other members of the Senior Nursing Management team uses available utilization data to determine overall staffing needs of division; works with Nurse Managers to develop staffing plans and schedules and to maintain appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix for units; monitors compliance. 3.* Selects, hires and supervises Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers; initiates disciplinary action, including terminations; carries out annual performance appraisal of employees recommending promotions, raises, etc.. 4. Conducts divisional and leadership staff meetings to review patient care issues, communicate changes in policies and procedures and implement corrective action as necessary. 5.* Assists divisional management in developing clinical and other information and resources to assist Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers in directing their areas efficiently and allocating resources appropriately so as to provide therapeutic and effective patient care. 6.* Provides and communicates information to members of the healthcare team on a variety of clinical and administrative matters (e.g., new products, equipment and techniques); makes recommendations to management on implementation and/or acquisition of new products/techniques; conducts in-services as required. 7.* Acts as liaison with medical staff, Chairman and other departments. 8.* Directs the maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff. 9.* Reviews standards and related policies and procedures for compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies; recommends and implements changes as required and ensures changes are communicated to Patient Services staff; monitors and reviews departmental and unit compliance with reporting requirements. 10.* Works with Executive Directors of Nursing and members of the healthcare team to develop, monitor, implement and evaluate nursing standards. 11.* Works with other members of the nursing senior leadership team to develop performance improvement and patient safety programs, reviews monitors clinical indicators, utilization issues and other related matters and provides information and reports as required by Maimonides Health and regulatory agencies. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES 12. Develops annual divisional budget in collaboration with the Finance Department and Materials Management staff; manages the budget throughout the year, analyzing and monitoring monthly reports and overtime runs to ensure the department operates within budgeted guidelines. 13.* Collaborates with Nursing and Finance in developing and monitoring systems by which non-labor resources can be funded and provided most cost-effectively works to standardize procedures and develop databases that will assist efficient planning of patient care services, programs and initiatives. 14.* Assists the Finance Department in developing uniform cost accounting methodology to assist Maimonides Health in determining and projecting accurately the costs of patient care services and other significant direct costs. 15.* Communicates to staff standard formats for fiscal, material and human resource management development and planning, and assists in training staff in new methods. 16.* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. * Indicates an Essential Job Function. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ OTHER JOB DUTIES Serves as a resource person to staff regarding clinical and management matters. Job Summary Responsible for implementing and supervising nursing services in the medical detoxification and gives direction to unit assistants on shift. Assists in training and evaluation of medical staff. Implements nursing care in a medically supervised facility treating up to 16 individuals going through withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines, and other drugs, in accordance with program procedures of the organization. Essential Functions Implements nursing care in accordance with program procedures established by the Medical Director and Nursing Supervisor and approved by the Program Administrator. May be designated Charge Nurse for a shift, with oversight of LPNs or nursing assistants. Screens and provides first response to pregnant in detoxification, including obtaining health history on mother, screening for TB and contagious disease. Actively and compassionately interacts with patients to encourage engagement in treatment after completion of detoxification. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment applying principles of medical asepsis and applying infection control techniques and universal precautions. Provides patient education on health care, as assigned or appropriate. Implements safety and emergency procedures during fire drills and other disaster procedures, with assistance to patients in the detox unit. Attends regularly scheduled detox staff meetings. Follows all policies and procedures regarding patient information protection, including alcohol drug patient confidentiality (42 CFR) and HIPAA (45 CFR). Attends training on chemical dependency as required by employer. Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable clinical procedures and nursing care based on company policy and State and Federal guidelines If does not have prior experience in a detox/withdrawal management facility, employee must complete preliminary 40 hours of training to include alcohol and drug education, patient confidentiality requirements, and program policies and procedures.
