About Us: The Pediatric Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology Lab and Interventional Radiology/Perianesthesia Imaging unit at Valley Children’s Hospital offers services for infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart disease and is part of the larger Perioperative team. This unit services patients coming to the Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology Lab, Interventional Radiology, and an Imaging modality that requires anesthesia for the Imaging procedure to be completed (MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, etc.). The Cath Lab features fully digital and completely computerized equipment, making it one of the most technologically advanced laboratories in the United States. This unit employs Registered Nurses, Perioperative Coordinators as well as Special Procedures, Patient Care and Cardiovascular Technicians. Each division works to provide their team with advancement opportunities that encourage self-development, offer process improvements, and ultimately work to improve outcomes for our patients. Job Summary: This position is accountable for managing the overall operations of a defined patient care unit during an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for monitoring, evaluation, and directing patient care provided by staff, coordinating activities of the patient care unit, making staff assignments and assisting with the development and evaluation of staff members. The incumbent will assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff, evaluating staff competency and evaluating, coaching, and counseling assigned staff in concert with the Manager/Supervisor. This position practices within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Children's policies. The Day Surgery process begins with pre-op admitting of the patient, which is inclusive of assessing the patient pre-surgery and preparing them for their surgical day. The most common surgeries are ENT followed by orthopedics and general surgeries and the patients range in age from newborn to young adult. Post-op phase II is a separate area from the admitting location and requires an entirely different set of skills. This phase of recovery occurs when the patient is awake and transferred from the recovery room to day surgery post-op where the patient is reunited with family and we begin preparing for discharge. About Us: The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Valley Children’s Hospital is Central California’s only Regional Level IV NICU - the highest level of medical care available for premature and critically ill newborns.
