Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Nursing Attendant-Centralized Nursing Service-23 Hours Per Month. In this role, the successful candidate Assists in implementation of the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse. Assists in maintaining an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit. Job Responsibilities: Assists with Admission/Transfer/Discharge of patients: Orients patient to hospital environment. Provides patient with toileting supplies. Assists patient to remove clothes, complete property check list and safeguard personal property through Security. Assists in transfer of patients by gathering belongings, completion of clothing list and assisting in moving the patient. Prepares bedside unit to receive patients. Discharges: Assists patient to dress and pack personal belongings. Escorts patient as necessary and remains with the patient until he/she has left the building. Conducts patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety and personal needs. Answers patient call lights and responds to patient needs promptly. Assemble O2 (e.g., nasal cannula) and suction set- ups. Provides basic hygiene to patients: bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, shaving, assists patients with bedpan, urinal and/or commode. Prepares patients for meals including: Clearing overbed tables and placing them within reach of the patient. Positioning patient correctly for eating/tube feedings. Assisting patients by preparing utensils and food items. Feeding patients. Performs and/or assist patient with simple treatments. Remove and reapply SCD wraps as directed by the RN. Assists RN in enema procedures. Collects specimens as directed by RN. Informs RN of any audible clinical alarms such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, bedside monitors Assists with moving, lifting, positioning and transporting of patients. Assists with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures, as needed. Changes linen in accordance with policy and as necessary. Takes and electronically records blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, and respiration per care level standard and as directed by the RN. Reports abnormalities to RN. Weighs patients and electronically records on admission, as ordered, and/or as directed by RN. Measures and records oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric and other drainage onto I&O record (form or electronic). Calculates 8 hour totals. Empties drainage bags. Performs post mortem care. Performs safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints, per policy and as directed. Reports any changes observed in the patients condition to the RN. Responds to and meets patient/family needs and customer concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding. Established effective, caring relationships with staff, patients, family and other members of the health care team. Maintains competence through in-service and educational programs. Attends staff meetings and reviews/signs minutes of meetings not attended. Maintains a safe and uncluttered environment of care in patient rooms including removing excessive furniture, supplies and equipment. Assists with supply and equipment management of patient, procedure and supply rooms per department standards. Maintains cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries as assigned. Performs other duties such as errands, relieving other units, bringing stretchers and assisting other members of the health team, as directed. Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience. BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification. Description The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Responsibilities Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary. Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, point of care testing or others as needed. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms). May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule. May check and verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Description The Milton and Carroll Petrie Department of Urology has long been a leader in clinical practice, education, and research. Faculty in our Department, which is housed within the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, perform complex procedures using robotics, laparoscopy, and endoscopy, all as a part of our minimally invasive urologic surgery program. We remain equally committed to engaging in breakthrough research while training the next generation of leaders in the field. The Medical Assistant II provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Mentors and assists less experienced staff members. Responsibilities Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary. Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart or others as needed. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms). May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule. May check and verify & update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary Provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff. Directs and assigns MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes. Oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet the needs of each physician. Performs other duties and tasks as required. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED with completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course. Certified Medical Assistant preferred. 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant For in-house candidates, promotion to Level II is contingent upon consistent E or S annual performance appraisals.
