Clinical Nurse Outpatient - General Oncology - LBJ Hospital The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to eliminating cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research, prevention, and education. General Oncology provides comprehensive outpatient cancer care through a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering coordinated, high-quality services and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey. The Clinical Nurse Outpatient is a key member of the UT MD Anderson, Lyndon B. Johnson Oncology Program. The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse Outpatient is to provide individualized assistance to Medical Oncology patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination and communication of the patient's plan of care. The Clinical Nurse Outpatient collaborates with physicians, referring providers, and interdisciplinary teams to support continuity of care, patient education, and symptom management. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), at least two years of oncology nursing experience. Medical Oncology and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is preferred. Candidates with strong telephone triage, care coordination, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration experience are highly desired. Salary Range : Minimum $68,000 ($32.69/hour) - Midpoint $105,200 ($50.58/hour) - Maximum $142,500 ($68.51/hour) Work Location: LBJ Hospital The typical work schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday onsite; Tuesday and Thursday remote (hybrid schedule). Responsibilities Facilitate the entry of patients into the cancer program and serve as the point of contact for primary care physicians and referring providers. Provide individualized assistance to Medical Oncology patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination and communication of the patient's plan of care. Initiate and document patient teaching related to diagnosis, treatment plans, symptom management, medications, and supportive care services. Perform telephone triage and assess patient concerns to ensure timely intervention and appropriate follow-up. Follow up on recommendations from Harris Health System's Ask My Nurse service. Implement risk assessments and healthcare pathways for oncology patients. Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate and maintain individualized patient care plans. Develop collaborative relationships with all physicians in the UT MD Anderson Oncology Program at LBJ Hospital. Serve as a liaison between oncologists and patients' referring providers to support continuity of care. Provide access to community resources and connect patients with support services. Assist with tracking program metrics and quality indicators. Serve as a liaison between community personnel and the interdisciplinary team at LBJ Hospital. Perform other duties as assigned. Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary: Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital are currently seeking a Physician Assistant/Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. This position offers unique experience in our community pediatric intensive care unit, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. Currently, the critical care intensive care units in the community have capacity for 14 patients. The NP/PA Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and occasionally pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU. The woodlands PICU opened in April 2017 and provides assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration or cardiovascular pressor support. The community ICU also provides care for children who require long-term technology support, those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home, and the management of children who require more intensive medical support. Location: The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Woodlands Campus, an extension of the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, and an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Role responsibilities include but are not limited to: Day-to-day care of children with acute and chronic illness requiring critical care. Active role in education of trainees when present.
