The Perioperative RN, PACU, Phase I RN: Maintains the PACU area in a state of readiness at all times, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and in good working order, with age specific supplies ready for use as needed. Assess patients on admission to PACU for the following: Patient airway Respirations Vital Signs Level of consciousness according to the Aldrete scale Level of pain Assesses and records vital signs every 5 minutes and Aldrete scale every 15 minutes. Uses appropriate devices and techniques to assist patient’s respirations and maintains optimum blood oxygen saturation. Assess surgical site for bleeding, reinforce dressing and notifying physician if increased drainage. Able to assess and treat post-operative pain effectively Proficient knowledge of drugs used in the PACU. Positions patient as ordered by physician. Responsibilities Responsible for providing primary medical care to patients in collaboration with the hospital medical staff and in accordance with applicable state law, hospital medical staff bylaws and regulatory governance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the coordination of patient care and providing instruction. Assists with the implementation of medical treatment plans established with the Physician. Performs administrative duties as assigned. Required Skills: Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of employment required. Current BLS and ACLS certifications from a Vibra-approved vendor required. Additional Qualifications/Skills : Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a hospital or acute care setting preferred. Ability to project a professional image. Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Strong organizational, prioritizing and analytical skills. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions. Freedom from illegal use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
