Overview PACU-staff nurses provide specialized patient care in the surgical setting in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. PACU-staff nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate nursing care for patients undergoing Level 0 to 4 surgical procedures in the hospital setting. The PACU-staff nurse prepares, monitors, and manages the patient and perianesthesia setting during the surgical encounter to maintain a safe environment, optimize outcomes, and maximize available resources. PACU-staff nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs, while coordinating patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary. Initiates dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD). Evaluates intradialytic problems and provides intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed. Monitors patients’ response to dialysis therapy. Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion; performs all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment and documents appropriately. Evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access - standing & sitting blood pressure. Obtains hemostasis and applies appropriate dressings. Evaluates the patient prior to discharge. Documents information related to patient treatment including documentation in the patient health record.
