Summary The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, Mid-Level Practitioners, and Registered Nurses with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting. The Medical Assistant assumes responsibility for maintaining patient flow, the upkeep of exam and treatment rooms, and performing basic skills such as vital signs and point of care testing. Performs patient intake: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required. Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit. Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures. Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit. Reviews patient charts and ensures that all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit. Performs basic lab and testing procedures according to standards. Performs phlebotomy and EKGs. Administers immunizations as ordered by Physician. Administers RUMG approved intramuscular or subcutaneous medications after competency has been assessed, verified and documented. Performs nebulizer treatments in the clinic setting after competency has been assessed, verified and documented. Performs Tuberculin skin testing upon the order of the Physician. Demonstrates appropriate population specific techniques with patients. Documents administration of over-the-counter medications and/or other medications in Epic per policy or protocol. Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations. Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a Physician. Calls in medication refills under the direction of a Physician or protocol. Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards. Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments. Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments. Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies. Maintains quality control for equipment. Provides cross coverage to other clinical areas as assigned. Location: Chicago, Illinois Hospital: Rush University Medical Center Department: IM Pulmonary-Crit Ca Work Type: Restricted Part Time (Total FTE less than 0.5) Pulmonary Critical Care/Adult ICU (Per diem) Advanced Practice Provider Rush University Medical Center Chicago, IL Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Pulmonary Critical Care/Adult ICU Per diem Advanced Practice Provider. This provider will join a team of both physicians and APPs that provides 24/7 care to critically ill medical patients at the Rush main campus. APPs will work autonomously and in collaboration with Rush pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows and will be required to perform a number of procedures including central line placements, paracentesis and temporary hemodialysis catheter placements, among other duties. Department/division specs There are more than 400 APPs employed across the Rush system. The AICU team is fully staffed with 9 APPs. We work closely with many departments (palliative care, hepatology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, etc.) as part of a multidisciplinary approach in the ICU. Duties & Responsibilities The AICU is a 28-bed unit that is staffed by both medical and surgical ICU teams. This position is 100% inpatient. Preferred Qualifications Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in the ICU is required. APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification.
