Ensures no medications are left unattended. d) Assesses effectiveness and observes for interaction and reaction of medications and treatment. e) Demonstrates knowledge of residents’ allergies according to established Care Plan. f) Documents medication and treatment administration in a timely and accurate manner according to Resident Care Policies and Procedures. g) Orders appropriate medications from pharmacy as needed in accordance with Resident Care Policies and Procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a Hospice Home Care Registered Nurse: Demonstrates ability to perform comprehensive assessments to identify all physical, psychosocial, environmental, safety, emotional and spiritual needs related to the terminal illness that must be addressed in order to promote the patient's well-being, comfort, and dignity throughout the dying process and documents findings on all appropriate forms and on the plan of care. Performs pain assessments using Edmonton Scale, adhering to pain protocols, knowledgeable in equi-analgesic dosing and assures optimal pain relief using an interdisciplinary focus and timely appropriate interventions. Organizes and prioritizes assignments to consistently meet productivity standards and complete documentation requirements within identified time parameters. Appropriately explains duties and functions of the interdisciplinary team; articulates disease progression of cancer(s), lung disease, heart disease, liver disease, dementia, and other neurologic disease states. Able to articulate etiologies of symptom manifestation (nausea, vomiting, anorexia, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, diarrhea, constipation, mucositis, weakness/fatigue, dysphasia, edema, dyspnea, cognitive impairment, urinary retention, depression, delirium) related to a disease process. Modifies the plan of care timely and appropriately with a demonstrated skill in anticipating problems that may cause or create a threat to patient safety or lack of symptom control. Demonstrates knowledge in usage, indication, adverse side effects, contraindications and negative interactions of most commonly used steroids, NSAIDs, benzodiazepines, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, narcotics, antifungals, and diuretics. Documents to agency standards, timely completion, timely signatures, and documents care using A-I-R protocol to support hospice stay in program and level of care. Elicited no founded patient/family complaints or unusual occurrences (i.e. reportable incidents). Demonstrates proper sharps disposal, hand hygiene, waste disposal, use of personal protective equipment. Adheres to requirements of both CHPC and Hospice Buffalo policies and procedures that are both patient focused (clinical) and organizational focused (administrative); Adheres to HIPPA regulations and policies. Maintains the security of patient electronic/written records. Incorporates computer documentation into patient visit and/or as much as appropriately possible without compromising the quality of care and/or communication. Assures the timely completion and return of all initial, renewal and modified orders and reviews all PPOC's for procedural compliance. Expected to perform additional duties as requested. Qualifications for a Hospice Home Care Registered Nurse: Education/Certification Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current RN licensure in the State of New York. Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing preferred. Valid Driver's License, free of serious violations, and vehicle required for use when on duty or on-call. Experience Year of nursing practice as a professional nurse is preferred. 
HOURLY RANGE: $29.77 - $40.05 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves para-professional duties in preparing, equipping and maintaining a hospital operating room and assisting a surgical team in conducting operations. The incumbent performs a variety of duties directly related to the preparation for and conduct of surgical operations and post-operative cleanup of operating room areas and ensures that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-ranking professional nursing and medical staff. Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required. Typical Work Activities Prepares operating room and case cart with necessary sterile supplies and equipment; Assists in transporting patients to operating room; Assists in preparation of operative area of patient and in positioning patient; Assembles and prepares specialized equipment for surgical procedures, i.e. implants or devises; Assists surgical team by passing or holding retractors, instruments, sponges and sutures during surgical procedure and counts number used during operation to prevent retained surgical items; Assists in educating the surgical team regarding new products and procedures; Adjusts lights and other equipment as directed; Assists in maintaining overall sterile environment throughout the procedure; Receives, prepares and identifies all grafts, tissues and medications on a sterile field before passing to surgeon; Confirms the specimen verbally with the surgeon, writes down specimen identification upon receipt from surgeon and verifies specimen with circulating Registered Professional Nurse prior to passing it off the sterile field, maintaining chain of custody; Cares for and delivers operative specimens to laboratory; Assists other team members in moving patient to recovery room; Assists in clean-up of operating area, gathers instruments for sterilization, disposes of used linen, gloves, utensils, equipment and waste; Assists team members, as needed, during the recovery phase of the patient; Prepares and presents appropriate records and reports as required. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and either: Completion of a nationally accredited education program for Surgical Technologists and possession of a Certified Surgical Technologist Credential administered by a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credentialing organization at the time of appointment* and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; or: Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commission Corps*; or: One (1) year of cumulative experience as a Surgical Technologist in a Healthcare Facility. The one (1) year of cumulative experience must have occurred between January 1, 2011 and January 1, 2015.
