The Team Lead for Utilization Review (UR) is responsible for the day-to-day activities and oversight of the UR Nurses, under the guidance and support of the Manager of Case Management and Director of the Center. Provides leadership and direction around scheduling, supervision and daily operations, while looking strategically at how workflow and process improvement can optimize and improve the role of Case Management and patient/family care through the institution. Lead will identify challenges and systems issues that need to be elevated to the Manager and Center Leadership. Team Lead-20%: Daily clinical support and supervision of UR nurses. Scheduling for UR coverage. UR Policies and Procedure review and maintenance. Onboarding and support of new staff. Individual and team supervision / support following challenging cases. Work with Manager to establish and track metrics, data and initiatives that improve process UR Team Communications. Assists Manager in completing performance evaluations. Provides formal and informal support of members through engagement activities, team supervision and staff meetings. Develop and maintain effective and efficient processes for determining the defensible hospitalization status based on regulatory and reimbursement requirements of various commercial and government payers. -20% Performs chart review of assigned patients to identify quality, timeliness, and appropriateness of patient care. Conducts hospitalization reviews for Medicaid beneficiaries, as well as other insurers and self-pay patients, based on appropriate guidelines. Uses these criteria to screen for appropriateness of level of care based on medical record documentation. -9% Gathers clinical information to conduct continued stay utilization review activities with payers pursuant to department policies and procedures and the Utilization Review Plan. -5% Escalates cases as appropriate for secondary review. -5% Performs concurrent and retrospective clinical reviews utilizing the appropriate guidelines as demonstrated by compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and timelines. -5% Adheres to CMS guidelines for utilization reviews as evidenced by utilization of the relevant guidelines and appropriate referrals for secondary review. Oversees daily clinical operations of department ensuring optimal use of all resources at all times to achieve productivity, patient access and patient satisfaction goals; plans, implements and monitors operational and administrative systems to achieve goals. Demonstrates accuracy in basic data entry and data retrieval of paper/electronic patient records. Education Required: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent; vocational training (defined below) may substitute. Vocational training is defined as one of the following: Completion of Medical Assistant training program approved by the American Association for Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists or similar program provided by the military; completion of Certified Nursing Assistant Program (Connecticut certification preferred); Current BSN nursing student in an accredited program and having completed 2 years of study and “Fundamentals of Nursing” course. Experience Required: 3 years working as a medical assistant at Connecticut Children’s, or working as a clinical lead in another practice. License Required: BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers from Heart American Heart Assoc or American Red Cross within 1 month hire, and maintained thereafter. Your Job The Registered Nurse will be responsible for the administration and management of Nursing Services to residents in accordance with orders of the physicians and total needs of the residents. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for the 24-hour supervision of Nursing Services and directs the Nursing Department to maintain quality standards of care in accordance with the Federal, State and company standards as well as guidelines and regulations. In the absence of the Administrator, The Director of Nursing will assume the responsibility for the center's operations. This position will conduct the nursing process – assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation – under the scope of the State’s Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure. Principal Responsibilities Assumes ultimate responsibility for coordinating plans for the total care of each resident which comply with physician’s orders, governmental regulations and facility resident care policies. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation. Participates in all admissions decisions, and may visit prospective residents before admissions. Participates in daily and weekly management team meetings to discuss resident status, census changes, personnel, or resident complaints or concerns. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or assigned at any time with or without notice. Qualifications Currently licensed as RN in the state practiced. Associate or Bachelor Degree from an accredited nursing school required. Five years in long-term or acute health care preferred; At least 2 years nursing supervisory experience required. 
Under general supervision, assumes accountability to plan and provide direct professional nursing care for specified patients during his or her assigned shift as defined by population and unit. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the standards of practice of a professional nurse, CCMC policies & procedures, Joint Commission, and State & federal regulations. Reports to Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Leaders. CLINICAL PRACTICE: Demonstrates clinical expertise and uses the nursing process to provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient population according to CCMC and unit policies and standards. Competently cares for all patients in med-surg and float assignments in the ICUs. Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers. LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING: Delegates duties and tasks associated with patient care to clinical staff according to hospital policy and their scope of practice. Participates in the professional development of others through preceptor/mentor activities and positive role modeling. Supports the department’s work productivity and resource management activities. DOCUMENTATION/COMMUNICATION: Completes all required documentation in a timely manner. Effectively communicates all information to members of the health care team. PATIENT/FAMILY PARTNERSHIP & EDUCATION: Partners with child and family in evaluating outcomes. Monitors and evaluates patient/family responses to treatment. Provides and documents appropriate education to patients and families regarding all aspects of care according to CCMC policies and standards. Education and/or Experience Required: A minimum of ASN/ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred. If ASN/ADN, must acquire BSN within 3 years of hire. Education and/or Experience Preferred: Experience Preferred: Minimum 2 years of experience working as a RN in a pediatric clinical setting. License and/or Certification Required: Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse Licensure required or nurse licensure compact (NLC) and maintained thereafter. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification required upon hire and maintained Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained thereafter. Endoscopy Nurse requires knowledge of surgical specialties relative to procedures and equipment. License and/or Certifications Required: Current State of Connecticut DPH Registered Nurse licensure OR current multistate nursing license under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) required and maintained thereafter. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within six months of hire. Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by department.
