Candidates must be permanent in the civil service title of Public Health Nurse** The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the New York City Department of Education and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. OSH is responsible for promoting the health of the 1.3 million students enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, reproductive health services, health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment. Job Details Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) Per Diem - am and pm shifts Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) to join our esteemed surgical team at a leading hospital in New York. In this role, you will work closely with surgeons and the healthcare team to provide comprehensive pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures. As a Surgical PA, you will be an integral part of the surgical care team, assisting with a range of surgeries, from routine to complex, across multiple specialties. This position offers an exciting opportunity to expand your skills in a collaborative and dynamic environment, contributing to high-quality patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Pre-operative Care: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, review medical histories, order necessary diagnostic tests, and provide education and counseling to patients prior to surgery. Intra-operative Care: Assist during surgical procedures by providing direct support to the surgical team, including suturing, specimen collection, and surgical site management. Post-operative Care: Monitor and assess patients post-surgery, managing pain, complications, and recovery. Provide discharge instructions, and ensure patients have appropriate follow-up care. Patient Management: Collaborate with attending physicians, residents, and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans for surgical patients. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Patient Education: Provide counseling on post-operative care, including medication management, activity restrictions, wound care, and signs of complications. On-call Responsibilities: Participate in on-call rotations as needed for emergency surgical care. Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and efficient workflow in the surgical department. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program. Current New York State Physician Assistant licensure. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Previous surgical experience or a strong interest in surgery preferred. Excellent clinical skills, with the ability to think critically and make independent decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care. Ability to perform under pressure and handle challenging situations with professionalism and poise. Willingness to participate in continuing education and maintain up-to-date knowledge of surgical techniques and practices. Salary Range USD $69.54 - USD $74.67 /Hr.
