The Registered Nurse is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position is 0.9 FTE, 36 hours/week. Responsibilities Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc. Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice In addition to primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurses (RN), the Infusion RN will have the following key responsibilities: Nursing Care and Assessment Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects Perform nursing assessment, review relevant lab results, assess pain and other symptoms Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and uses correct precautions when handling them Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products Patient and Family Education Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s) Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post-infusion therapy Communication and Teamwork Communicate or escalate patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care Request consultation from social work, dietician, spiritual care, and or any other supportive care teams when patient's situation indicates Professional Development and Clinic Engagement Participation in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives Qualifications Required: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); and must upgrade to an MSL primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire. This requirement may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval. Applicants that do not have previous oncology experience will be provided additional training and support Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (required within 3 months of hire) Additional certification may be required dependent upon department. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Two years of nursing experience preferred Certification in oncology or specialty practice area 2 years of RN Oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting The hourly pay range for this position is from $47.64 to $88.19 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification. A Fred Hutch Cancer Center ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management of multiple service lines of adult oncology patients at our community site at Evergreen. They will actively coordinate the complex care of cancer patients undergoing both systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiation therapy. The incumbent will manage side-effects of these therapies, order appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies; prescribe medications and refer patients to other specialists as necessary. The incumbent may provide for post-treatment cancer patients follow-up visits for the medically indicated period after completion of treatment. The incumbent will also provide psychological support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching and refer patients to community agencies and other resources to promote optimal adjustment and functioning. This position requires the ability to lead other clinical staff, be accountable for the work required in this position, the ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment, and the relentless pursuit of excellent patient centered care. This clinic provides a broad range of services including GI, Lung, GU, Breast, and Hematologic Malignancies and Radiation therapy. Responsibilities Performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues. Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research Provides patient, caregiver, and peer education Communicates effectively with inpatient and outpatient teams Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner training program awarding a Master’s degree. Certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Licensed to practice in the state of Washington.
