Job Overview Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room (OR) Advanced Endoscopy Team at our University of Minnesota Medical Center East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. We are seeking a hardworking and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room (OR) team, which includes surgical technologists, nursing assistants, schedulers, instrument technicians, and MDs. This position will serve an all-adult patient population. Schedule: This position will be working 64 hours every 2 weeks on the rotating day/evening/night shifts (mostly days). The schedule includes: 8 hour shifts (start times vary between 630am and 9am Monday thru Friday), weekday call as needed, currently 1 weekend shift (usually call) per schedule period. About the OR at UMMC East Bank University of Minnesota Medical Center is the flagship location for University of Minnesota Health Offers the widest range of hospital and clinical services provided through University of Minnesota Health, ranging from primary care and emergency care to deliver care to patients with the most complex conditions Areas of specialization include: solid organ transplant, blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease, and cancer Surgeries in this unit are team based among these specialties: neurology, thoracic, cardiovascular, vascular, complex ENT, robotics, gynecology, oncology, urology The OR at UMMC East Bank completes on average 45-50 scheduled cases per day As an Operating Room RN, you will be responsible for: The Operating Room RN demonstrates the ability to establish an environment of safety for the surgical patient. They should be able to assess, diagnose, implement, and evaluate treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological stability of the surgical patient. They may also serve as a circulator or scrub during operative procedures. Implements protective measures prior to operative or invasive procedure, including measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical and chemical sources. Confirms identity before the operative or invasive procedure and verifies operative procedure, surgical site and laterality. Applies safety devices, performs required counts, manages specimen handling and disposition. Demonstrates knowledge about the psychologic, sociologic, and spiritual responses of patients and their families to the operative or other invasive procedure. Applies principles of aseptic technique while establishing and maintaining sterile fields. Performs skin preparations, monitors for wound contamination, and classifies the surgical wound. Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate. Responsibilities Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes. Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs. Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes. Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes. Job Summary: Under immediate supervision of the Health Center Manager, the Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse performs routine clinic duties associated with a reproductive health program within the scope of their MA training/LPN licensure. Refer patients per protocol, perform follow-up functions, and assure complete documentation of care plan. Follow all federal, state, and local laws regarding mandated reporting, abortion services, healthcare services, and HIPAA. Provide contraceptive supplies, medications including injectables, perform venipuncture, and manage patients with medical emergencies per PPNCS protocols Assure inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, and tracking as assigned. Communicate PPNCS protocols, policy and procedures to clinicians and staff as appropriate. Assure clinic manuals are up to date (e.g., clinic, lab, safety, MS&G). Maintain a working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures and apply these to patient and clinic services. Supervise nursing functions as delegated by the Health Center Manager or clinician/physician. All health center staff are expected to participate in the onboarding of new employees and supporting the cross-training of established employees. Follow all state laws regarding mandatory reporting. Collaborate with and provide coverage as needed at health centers in assigned neighborhoods. Administer mild and moderate sedation. As appropriate, assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability, and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-procedure. Perform ultrasound medical services in accordance with Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G) Supervise and assess patient’s post procedure recovery. Perform other clinical skills within the scope of their training and applicable state laws.
