Overview As a Registered Nurse on the Mother-Baby unit, the 67-bed unit, 30 beds of which are designated for the newborn. Mother-Baby unit- The unit provides nursing care to post-partum patients, newborns, ante-partum patients and women with gynecological conditions. Newborn babies who are stable and are not in critical care are admitted to the Regular and Transitional Care Nursery. The following medical diagnoses are common among those admitted: ¨ placenta previa ¨ pregnancy-induced hypertension ¨ gestational diabetes ¨ premature rupture of membrane ¨ preterm labor ¨ hyperemesis gravidarum ¨ normal vaginal delivery ¨ cesarean section ¨ non-infectious gynecological conditions The Maternity Staff Practice Mother- Baby Nursing and promote rooming- in; one nurse cares for both mother and baby. This family centered approach fosters mother/newborn bonding. ASN and BSN new graduates welcomed! Carries out patient care responsibilities with emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include assessment, diagnosis, and identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides competent, safe and compassionate care based on established BronxCare Health System Patient Care and Nursing Standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, formulates the initial plan of care with the provider (physician or nurse practitioner) and collaborates with them to implement a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care to achieve expected outcomes; utilizes principles of assignment and delegation consistent with the NY State Nurse Practice Act.
