This person supports activities of daily living (ADL's) with patients and prevents complications. Roles and Responsibilities: Direct Patient Care- Toileting, ambulating, repositioning, monitoring and recording intake and output of fluids, recording patient weight, obtaining vital signs, and reporting abnormal findings or changes in the patient's conditions to the RN. Reinforcing education with patients; i.e. incentive spirometer use, and fall prevention. Maintaining a clean and organized patient bedside area to ensure a safe workspace. Intentionally rounding on each patient every hour. Mandatory Orientation Training completion required: one full week of Monday through Friday 8a-4p prior to starting work on the unit. Required Skills and Experience: High school or equivalent experience BLS- will be provided if needed Preferred Skills and Experience: NYS Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) Previous patient care experience Physical Requirements: Frequent hand and finger use (e.g., to operate a computer keyboard). Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. (e.g., boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require. Monitors the administration and accurate recording of medications used. Investigates and follow through on medication errors. Notifies physicians of pertinent observations and reactions, incident and abnormal laboratory and x-ray results as required and documents same promptly. Transcribes physician orders timely and ensure orders are implemented as appropriate. Reports all resident, visitor and work-related accidents/injuries and demonstrates appropriate follow through by investigating, documenting and processing incident reports. Accepts guidance, supervision, and criticism if needed. Practices in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory agencies regulations. Assures that a stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc. are maintained at adequate levels at all times. Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing your nursing shifts. Other responsibilities as deemed necessary and appropriate or as may be directed by the Director of Nursing Services or Administrator. Registered Nurse (RN) Qualifications/Requirements: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing M.S./B.S. or equivalent experience preferred Licensed to practice in Tennessee Nursing Experience which one has acquired clinical competence and strong leadership skills. Demonstrates an understanding of and appreciation of the aging process. Ability to be self-directive in delegated areas of responsibility.
