JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care. Perform message management of in-basket communications and patient phone calls. Collaborates with providers to manage patient fertility cycles according to the plan of care. This includes but is not limited to IUI, IVF, and FET cycles. Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned. Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners. Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Rotating weekend requirement, no more than one weekend per month. Description The UNC Hospitals Behavioral Health Emergency Department (BHED) is looking for a Nursing Assistant I (Per Diem) to join their team. The UNC Hospitals Behavioral Health Emergency Department (BHED)provides care to approximately 5,000 patients annually. The department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With the new state of the art Emergency Department Transitional Unit, the BHED can accommodate up to 42 beds for patients seeking mental health care in a patient centered environment. BHED staff partner and work closely with Emergency Medicine to provide compassionate, quality mental health care, focusing on the unique needs of patients and families which may include those struggling with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. This is a Per Diem/ at-will position requiring the ability to generally work a minimum of 12 hours every 2 weeks; Day & Night Rotating shifts, general hours are 7am-7:30pm & 7pm-7:30am, with weekend and holiday rotation. This position requires the ability to attend the required weeklong hospital orientation offered every two weeks. Orientation Schedule: Monday & Tuesday – Virtual with a 10am mandatory WebEx; Wednesday – 8am to 10am Virtual and in person from 1pm to 5 pm; and Thursday and Friday – Virtual. Summary: Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic or home health care setting. All work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Ensures compliance and accurate completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) and the oversight and development of the care planning process. Serves as the liaison between the community, the payer, and the corporate office. Coordinates the restorative nursing care program by screening, setting and updating goals for residents, and educating staff on the implementation.
