Instructor - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

Summary To provide coverage for patient care for Emergency Medicine at Ben Taub General Hospital. This is a critical piece of the clinical service that will help maintain coverage within the Emergency Center. The physician assistant is expected to demonstrate competence in following areas: Productivity needs to meet or exceed standards set by the Section and/or Department. Keep up with continuing medical education as per college and section requirements. Renewing and meeting all required licenses and certification requirements. Familiarize with EPIC- electronic medical records and document all patient encounters as needed. Complete all documentation in a timely manner so that billing and other administrative tasks can happen smoothly to ensure a robust operational system. Maintaining credentialing at all times to ensure practice is not disrupted. Job Purpose Provides advanced patient care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications For Nurse Practitioners: Masters degree in in Nursing. Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN), and with a mandatory acute care certification (CPNP-AC). For Physician Assistant: Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
