A Brief Overview Works with the Nurse Manager of assigned unit(s) and other members of Nursing Leadership to create an environment that supports professional practice standards. Integrates unit education, evidence based practice, quality outcomes and strategic initiatives into the development of a collegial relationship with nursing staff and other health care professionals to contribute to high performance patient care environment. What You Will Do Establishes annual education goals with the Nurse Manager that support those set for the Department and Organization. Develops an education plan and annual competency and executes programming to operationalize goals using didactic education, simulation and demonstration. Facilitates the orientation of new staff to assigned units through collaboration and consultation with Nurse Managers and Preceptors to develop individual orientation plans based on assessed needs and maintains accurate orientation records. Provides consultation and direction to preceptors, nurses or nurse managers as needed and serves as a mentor for new and current nursing staff. Assesses the educational needs of staff in assigned areas in collaboration with nursing management. Uses a variety of methods including data collected from performance improvement activities, direct observation, patient satisfaction surveys, and hospital goals. Plans and implements formal and informal education activities to meet the needs of nursing staff in assigned areas. Provides clinical expertise at point of care including implementing care for complex patients or carrying out complex/high risk procedures. Maintains an accurate system of documentation related to the educational experiences of staff, including orientation and ongoing staff development. Reviews or develops unit policies and procedures in collaboration with staff; assuring that evidence based practice and research are integrated as appropriate. Identifies opportunities for improvement, evidence based practice and nursing research projects and initiates or participates in unit Performance Improvement activities. Facilitates, supports and encourages programs and initiatives that promote specialty certification and advanced education initiatives. Leads programs that support the Nursing Magnet Model and Peer Review structure in order to drive nursing performance improvement. Promotes and supports the Professional Excellence Program in collaboration with departmental leaders in research and performance improvement. Description Job Title - Program Director (Licensed Nurse Practitioner) Solid Tumor Research Nursing - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day The Program Director for Solid Tumor Research Nursing is a credentialed individual responsible for daily operations of all solid tumor research nursing teams and related clinical services for the Tisch Cancer Center of the Mount Sinai Health System. This person must have expert knowledge of cancer as a disease process, cancer treatment modalities, and the process of conducting clinical research. She/he is responsible for clinical operations and integrity, compliance, and knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and institutional policies and procedures. She/he is also expected to function as a research NP in her/his designated disease area. This position administratively reports to the Senior Director for Cancer Clinical Research and clinically reports to the Associate Director of Clinical Research Operations. Responsibilities Oversees day-to-day management of the solid tumor clinical research nursing teams. Ensures integration of other areas as they relate to clinical services, including but not limited to Finance, Legal Affairs, Contracts, Compliance, IT, Facilities, and Human Resources/Labor Relations, etc. Supervises licensed staff to ensure protocol compliance, accurate data collection, sample acquisition, and all nursing related study conduct. Provides exemplary patient care while ensuring protocols are conducted in a high-quality manner and clinical research documentation is inspection ready. Oversees coordination of study enrollments, databases/case loads of patients, protocol treatments, and follow-up care for patients participating in clinical trials. Guides nursing teams responsible for ensuring protocol adherence and accurate source data. Implements standards for research protocols in compliance with regulatory, institutional, and external agencies. Collaborates with attending physicians to identify and maintain best practices for recruiting patients eligible for clinical trial. Provides oversight for scheduling of patient laboratory and radiologic assessments, admissions, and clinic visits. Supports investigators and their teams with the informed consent process and documentation. Assures the primary nursing staff understands how to administer investigational agents per specifications of the protocol. Ensures accurate and timely research documentation and works with ancillary departments (e.g., infusion, radiology, etc.) to ensure research is integrated into standard clinical operations. Facilitates in/external monitoring and auditing; leads quality improvement and process improvement projects. Develops and implements ongoing performance/process improvement programming. Collaborates with other members of the health care team in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of policies, procedures, and standards of care for designated patient populations. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required. Master’s Degree preferred; or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP). At least 5 years of directly related clinical research experience with additional supervisory experience. New York State License with current registration as a registered professional nurse. Certification in specialty area preferred. Progressive managerial and clinical job-related experience specific to area of responsibilities.
