Job Description UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care, known for innovation, technology and compassionate care. Our 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery). Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated. SUMMARY Assesses and evaluates the health status of resident / patient and provides care and treatment in accordance with physician orders and standards of practice. The Registered Nurse (RN) works within the scope of practice as defined by the State. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assesses patients by physical examination including pertinent diagnostic testing to determine health status. Administers medications and treatments. Participates in the care planning process and oversees implementation of the plan. Supervises LVNs and Certified Nursing Assistants/Nursing Assistants. Communicates with physicians regarding changes in conditions, diagnostic test results, etc. Documents assessments and care in compliance with standards of care and company policy. Educates patients and their families on health-related issues. ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing Valid State licensure as an RN Current CPR certification SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises LVNs, Student Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Nursing Assistants PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT Shift work may be required. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, feel, talk and hear. Employee will occasionally assist to lift and / or transfer patients weighing between 100 to 250 pounds. Employee is occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. THER REQUIREMENTS Participates in (or conducts) company-sponsored training to safeguard against improper use and disclosure of resident’s protected health information. Monitors and oversees facility’s efforts to comply with company policies, procedures and state and federal law.
