Essential Functions Clinical Care & Withdrawal Management Perform comprehensive medical assessments upon admission and throughout withdrawal management. Diagnose and treat substance withdrawal syndromes, including but not limited to alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, and stimulants. Develop, implement, and adjust individualized withdrawal management plans, including medication protocols. Prescribe, administer, and monitor withdrawal-related medications (e.g., benzodiazepines, clonidine, buprenorphine, naltrexone, supportive medications) in accordance with scope of practice and collaborative agreement. Utilize standardized withdrawal tools (e.g., CIWA-Ar, COWS) and document clinical decision-making. Monitor for and respond to medical or psychiatric emergencies, including escalation to physician or transfer to higher level of care when indicated. Medication Management Conduct medication reconciliation on admission and discharge. Ensure safe prescribing practices, medication monitoring, and adherence to program protocols. Educate patients on medications, side effects, and treatment expectations. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment applying principles of medical asepsis and applying infection control techniques and universal precautions. Implements safety and emergency procedures during fire drills and other disaster procedures, with assistance to patients in the detox unit. Attends regularly scheduled detox staff meetings. Follows all policies and procedures regarding patient information protection, including alcohol drug patient confidentiality (42 CFR) and HIPAA (45 CFR). Attends training on chemical dependency as required by employer. Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable clinical procedures and nursing care based on company policy and State and Federal guidelines If does not have prior experience in a detox/withdrawal management facility, employee must complete preliminary 40 hours of training to include alcohol and drug education, patient confidentiality requirements, and program policies and procedures.
