Applicant will be considered for one of the 2 teams: Surgical Subspecialties and Trauma/Emergency General Surgery. There is opportunity to cross-cover and work on both teams. An ideal applicant will be effective in collaborating with physicians and other health care teams; demonstrate solid knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine; and be able to make responsible clinical decisions within the scope of their practice. The PA/NP is expected to demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care and ensures compliance with patient related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards and recommendations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Day-to-day responsibilities include: · Conducting histories and comprehensive physical exams to evaluate patients for surgery. · Performing daily rounds on surgical inpatients and provide continuity in care · Ordering and interpreting tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, performing patient education, preparing discharge plans, prescribing medications. · Comprehensive and clear documentation of patient progress (using EPIC as the EMR) · Performing bedside procedures (ex: I&Ds; insert/remove/manage tubes, drains, and catheters, wound care, casting/splinting; arthrocentesis, etc.) · Consulting and collaborating with medicine and/or other specialists as needed · First-assisting in the OR: Specialties including General, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Colorectal, Gynecologic, Thoracic, Breast, Plastics, ENT, Urology, and Vascular. Prior experience in Robotics is highly preferred · Admissions and surgical consultations · Responding to Trauma Activations, if covering the trauma service. · Communicating and coordinating patient care with nurses, case management/social work, PT/OT, and consulting teams. Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures to include the patient’s cardiovascular system, respiratory system and airway management needs, neurological system, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status. Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors. Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes. Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions. Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer ( e.g. , Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score [ i.e. , PARSAP], Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System [PADSS], White) score accurately as defined by organizational policy.
