Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety and CPR Re-certification. ACLS is required. 5. Must have theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients. Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds. Working Conditions Moderate level of physical exertion required. Clinical Nursing Student – [Lorain Hospital] Job Summary: The Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN. Essential Functions: Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process. Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties. Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated Participates in patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition) Performs basic patient hygiene and care related to activities of daily living - assisting with ambulation and patient mobility, feeding, hydration and nutrition and bowel and bladder elimination Utilizes clinical technology as applicable Escalates concerns appropriately through appropriate chain of command Education: HS/GED (required) Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required) Required Licensing & Certifications: BLS (preferred) Experience: Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred) Skills & Abilities: Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team Ability to understand and follow directions of healthcare team Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (i.e. falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care) Infection prevention and transmission-based precautions Team dynamics Compassionate, relationship-based approach in care activities Accountability for completion of assigned tasks Critical thinking Advanced problem solving Understanding of nursing process Professionalism Training: Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred) This is a PRN Position. Under supervision of the physician(s), participates in providing health promotion, health maintenance, and management of illnesses. Responsible for performing a variety of clinical duties including but not limited to: monitoring patient flow, obtaining and documenting patient vitals, document current medications, chief complaint, performing technical laboratory functions including phlebotomy/EKG/stress testing, monitor/track/charge medical equipment, scheduling procedures and tests, and medical scribe duties. What you will need: Must be a graduate of an accredited program of practical nursing with current licensure in the state of Ohio. OR must be a High school graduate. Medical Assistant certification required. Must have the ability to perform as a medical scribe. Prior experience in a medical office/urgent care setting preferred. Current CPR certification. Must be knowledgeable of technical application of nursing process. Must possess critical thinking skills, including skill in exercising initiative, judgement, problem solving, and decision making. Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and insurable under Firelands auto policy.
