Description UNC Health Rex Holly Springs Hospital –Neonatal/NICU Registered Nurse Department Description: UNC Rex Holly Springs Women's & Children's Services is a growing department dedicated to providing exceptional care for mothers, newborns, and families in Southern Wake County and the surrounding communities. Our 12-bed Women's & Children's Unit cares for postpartum patients, newborns, stable antepartum patients, and patients recovering from minor gynecologic procedures. As our neonatal services continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced Neonatal/NICU-trained Registered Nurse to join our team. This unique role combines the excitement of attending high-risk deliveries with the opportunity to provide specialized care for infants requiring transitional NICU-level support in our Level II Special Care Nursery. Position Summary: The Neonatal/NICU-trained Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care for newborns requiring advanced assessment, monitoring, and intervention. This nurse collaborates closely with Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs), Physician Assistants (PAs), Respiratory Therapists (RTs), pediatric providers, and the multidisciplinary care team to deliver safe, evidence-based, family-centered care. Key Responsibilities: Attend high-risk deliveries as part of the neonatal resuscitation team in collaboration with NNPs/PAs and Respiratory Therapists. Provide comprehensive assessment, monitoring, and nursing care for neonates requiring Level II Special Care Nursery services. Recognize changes in infant condition and communicate findings promptly to the neonatal care team. Assist advanced practice providers and physicians with neonatal procedures and stabilization. Administer medications and treatments according to neonatal standards of care. Support infant feeding plans, including breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and specialized nutritional needs. Educate and support families throughout their infant's hospitalization, promoting confidence and preparedness for discharge. Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, lactation consultants, therapists, and ancillary departments. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, ongoing education, and competency development related to neonatal care. We are a growing department as we grow with our community in Southern Wake County and surrounding areas. We provide couplet care for 3 couplets in a Level II Birthing Center, performing assessment's, evaluating educational needs and support throughout the mother and baby's stay. We provide postop care for GYN surgical patients who have had minor GYN surgeries including assessment, wound care and postop education and support. Stable antepartums may need bedrest and further evaluation and follow up non-stress tests.
