Scope of Work The Specialty Nurse is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing operations of specialized cardiovascular programs, with an initial focus on the Resistant Hypertension, Prevention and Renal Denervation Clinics. This role serves as a clinical resource for patients, providers, and multidisciplinary team members while coordinating care across the continuum to improve patient outcomes and access to specialty services. The Specialty Nurse will assist in identifying, triaging, and managing patients who may benefit from advanced hypertension interventions, while also evaluating and coordinating referrals to preventive cardiology services. The position requires flexibility to support additional specialty programs within the department and provide cross-coverage during periods of staff absence, including vacations, PTO, and leaves of absence. About the unit The Short Stay Unit/Observation Unit is a 50 bed unit (private rooms), specialized in caring for the adult population with a variety of diagnoses. A multi-disciplinary team approach in care, treatment and disposition within 23 hours. Patients can come to our unit from all areas: Emergency Center, Operating Room, procedural areas, directly from home or from their primary care physician’s office. The unit has 20 telemetry beds for patients who require cardiac monitoring. Our specialty is “All Non-Critical Specialties”, due to the wide range of diagnosis. About the unit We are a 64 bed Inpatient Rehab Unit that sees a variety of patients who need to work on both their functional and medical problems. We treat ortho patients recovering from hip fractures, complex knee replacement, back surgery with neurologic involvement, multi-trauma, and other orthopedic issues. We also see neurology patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord tumors, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Parkinson’s, MS, and any cancer diagnosis with functional decline. We also have patients come to our unit who had amputations and other complex medical/surgical issues with functional decline. Patients participate in 15 hours of therapy across the 7-day week. Nursing continues the interventions practiced by the patients in therapy sessions, to continue safe mobility. For many of our patients, Rehab is the key to getting back home with their families. This is a very rewarding unit to work on, as we all get to take part in the progress patients make towards their goal of getting home.
