North 8, Women’s Health, is a 27 bed surgical unit serving the unique needs of women. We primarily care for patients recovering from gynecological, uro-gynocology, and gyn/onc procedures as well as plastic surgery and abdominal procedures. In addition, we care for stable obstetrical patients such as high risk antepartum, and postpartum women whose newborns are in the NICU. During surges in the hospital-wide census, we also admit a small percentage of female medical patients on North 8. We offer the opportunity for the nurse to learn such skills as electronic fetal monitoring, advanced breastfeeding support, and a wide variety of pre- and post-operative interventions Job Summary: Under the supervision of a Nurse Leader, the Patient Care Tech is responsible for performing specific duties that support patient care, which includes direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing a safe and efficient care environment. This position performs selected interventions and activities that contribute to providing comprehensive care to patients in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. In addition, along with the care team, this position is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience. This role performs in a high activity work environment with multiple priorities and necessitates flexibility in scheduling. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES UNIT LEADERSHIP Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities and unit operations on an assigned shift for an inpatient nursing unit: Ensures adequate staffing levels by supporting Resource Nurses to make appropriate decisions; understands and takes into consideration both unit and organizational staffing resource needs, and appropriately allocates/assigns staffing resources based upon those needs; Assists with analysis of monthly budget variances and yearly budget planning Facilitates teamwork and cooperation among staff, effectively follows-up and resolves routine employee relations issues, seeking support from Nurse Manager with more complex issues Participates in the selection, hiring and orientation process for unit staff; partners with nurse manager in all phases of the performance management process (planning, ongoing feedback/coaching, check ins, and appraisal) for assigned staff; facilitates off-shift staff meetings; Identifies shift equipment, supply and services issues; communicates with appropriate personnel, and follows-through to resolve resource issues. The Susan D. Flynn Pediatric Oncology Nursing Fellowship program is intended to help stimulate the career interest and foster the professional development of potential Pediatric Oncology Nurses. The program is focused on the critically important field of Oncology Nursing. The Fellowship enhances the Student Nurse Intern's core clinical education through direct involvement with Oncology patient care, expert training in compassionate care, and exposure to related patient care duties and services that typify Oncology nurses' valuable role and important inter-relationships with other members of the healthcare team. Opportunities to attend various pertinent internal educational programs and meetings with key team members at Connecticut Children's Medical Center provide additional learning experiences for the Student Nurse Intern. The Flynn Fellowship Student Nurse Intern functions as a Patient Care Assistant, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, and is provided with a comprehensive scope of direct observational and learning experiences related to Oncology Nursing. DIRECT PATIENT CARE - Provides direct patient care (as defined by the unit) that addresses the population-specific needs of the patients on the unit with the exception of sitting for patients who require 1:1 observation. Program Schedule: The Connecticut Children's Flynn Fellowship runs for 8 consecutive weeks during the summer months. The Student Intern works 40 hours per week, and the daily schedule may vary during the week to allow for diverse clinical learning experiences. Education and/or Experience Required: Must be registered as a rising Senior Nursing Student in a four-year baccalaureate nursing program. The student must be enrolled in a nursing program that is approved by the Flynn Fellowship Program. Achieved and maintained at least a 3.0 GPA.

The Value Analysis Specialist is responsible for the Product Evaluation/Value Analysis Program (PEVA) through collaboration with Executive Leadership, Supply Chain Leadership, Medical Staff, Clinical Staff, and Vendors. Implements organization-wide strategy/direction to reduce expenses and improve clinical outcomes and quality. Responsible for working with Supply Chain administration to review and optimize current contract portfolio, develop and execute product standardization throughout the organization, facilitate "roll-out" of new products/conversions by working with clinical partners, and successfully execute the supply cost management and Supply Chain operation plan. Drives clinical cost reduction and better patient outcomes as the Clinical Champion of Connecticut Children's Value Analysis Program. Organizes and manages all Value Analysis Committees at CT Children's. Assesses relevant financial, clinical, operational, and evidence-based literature and appropriately assists in selecting, evaluating, monitoring, analyzing, and implementing cost-effective products, services, and processes. Serves as an information resource by providing data/information related to Value Analysis by investigating new or alternative products/services based on observations, product issues, high costs, requests from user groups, suppliers, Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) peer groups, or as assigned by Supply Chain Administration. Coordinates clinical evaluation trial activity with clinical partners. Completes Evidence-Based research by reviewing and analyzing appropriate sources of product and vendor information. MDS Coordinator The primary role of the MDS Coordinator is to coordinate and guide the overall process and tracking of all Medicare/Medicaid case-mix documents, and care assessments in order to assure appropriate reimbursement for services. The position is also responsible for completing concurrent MDS to assure achievement of maximum allowable RUG categories, as well as integrating information from Nursing, Dietary, Social Services, and Rehabilitation departments for appropriate reimbursement. Responsibilities: Coordinates the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of resident care by following the MDS process. Coordinates and facilitates care conferences with the interdisciplinary team. Coordinates, completes and reviews Minimum Data Sets (MDS) Educates, trains and assists nursing staff and other departments regarding the roles of assessments, planning, implementation and MDS process; and completion of applicable sections of MDS. Responsible for ensuring all current MDS/PPS updates are implemented and staff is in-serviced. Will cross train between PPS and OBRA.
