The Cardiothoracic and Vascular Operating Room Registered Nurse (CVOR RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures. As the circulating nurse, the RN coordinates the intraoperative environment to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care by maintaining a sterile surgical environment, coordinating resources, promoting effective communication among the interdisciplinary team, and serving as the patient's advocate throughout the surgical experience. The CVOR RN demonstrates specialized knowledge of complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures, advanced surgical technology, patient safety principles, and perioperative nursing practice while exercising sound clinical judgment and critical thinking in a high-acuity surgical setting. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, professional nursing standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
