Summary Under the general supervision of the Clinic Program Manager and/or Administrator or Physician, and according to established procedures, provides care to patients and families. Responsible and accountable for the care provided regardless of whether it is provided solely by said nurse or if by the nurse and others under his/her supervision. Implements and coordinates the steps of the nursing process, involves the patient in decision making relative to care and is responsible for making nursing care judgements and acting upon them. Collaborates with Physicians in the management of prescribed medical plan of care. Responsible for participating in educational, quality assurance and research activities. Additionally, the Registered Nurse acts as a consultant, sharing his/her clinical expertise and knowledge with other health care providers and members of the community. Delegates, supervises and coordinates nursing care activities provided by personnel assigned to assist in the provision of nursing care, such as but not limited to Medical Assistants, Patient Service Representatives and Referral Specialists Principal Duties And Responsibilities Responsible to the Clinical Program Manager, meets and maintains competence as defined by the clinical service experience and credential requirements, provides nursing care to patients. Implements and coordinates the steps of the nursing process assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, prescription, intervention and evaluation. Implements the prescribed medical regimen, evaluates the patient response to the regimen and advises the physician of changes in the patient’s condition. Performs extended functions in coordination of patient care and services, such as but not limited to insurance authorizations, referral review, medical clearances, procedure scheduling, patient office scheduling. Performs extended functions in accordance with written Newport Hospital protocols and policies. Participates in clinic and departmental level collaborative activities such as but not limited to joint case presentations, grand rounds. Collaborates on a continuous basis with the patient, family, Physician, Nurse Practitioners, nurses and other health team members to integrate, evaluate and ensure continuity of the plan of care. Seeks out and participates in activities leading to self-growth and professional development. Updates knowledge of professional, medical and technological developments and participates in the incorporation of these into clinical nursing practice. Participates in educational activities commensurate with learning needs and individual ability such as but not limited to conference, seminars and orientation of new staff. Works with facility members of affiliated nursing educational programs to integrate clinical proactive for students within the plan patient care management. Participates in clinic and departmental quality assurance activities such as but not limited to monitoring and evaluation of care, validation of nursing and ambulatory standards, policies and procedures. Participates in related clinical and operational research activities. Assumes charge position responsibilities for the clinic as delegated. Participates with the Ambulatory Clinical Manager in performance appraisals. Participates on committees and in other organizational activities involving professional practice and patient care standards as needed. Basic Knowledge Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, bachelor’s degree in nursing required Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Current BLS certification with the American Heart Association Experience Related experience and credentials where indicated. Work Environment And Physical Requirements Ambulatory patient care setting, exposed to ambulatory patient care environment which includes exposure to communicable diseases, however adherence to infection control policies and procedures minimizes chance of illness or injury. A nursing degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital, nursing care center, or related healthcare setting. Supervisory experience with knowledge of leadership principles, staff development, and teaching practices required. Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices strongly preferred. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
