Assesses the patient's physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. 2. Assesses learning needs. Provides education to patient and family. Performs nursing duties including, but not limited to: physical, pain and psychosocial assessment, documentation, vital signs, bladder scan, Uroflow, catheter insertion and removal, medication administration and use of POCT (Point of Care Testing). 6. Demonstrates the ability, and knowledge, to handle and transfer clean and dirty instruments/equipment. Maintains competence in the use of the Trophon for high level disinfecting of ultrasound probes. Maintains competence in point of use cleaning of instruments. Disinfects equipment and room as determined by hospital standards and/or policies. 7. Verifies information in chart is accurate and up to date, including but not limited to: reason for visit, health history, surgical history, medications, allergies, preferred laboratory, preferred pharmacy, fall risk, pain assessment, psychosocial assessment, learning assessment, preferred language, and social history. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department. 8. Functions as preceptor to new staff. 9. Functions as charge nurse. 10. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review. Qualifications EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred. EXPERIENCE 2-3 years nursing experience, urology preferred. Recent ambulatory/medical office experience preferred. Proficient in use of computer software to include electronic patient records. Must have ability to use internet for literature searches regarding care for patients. LICENSURE Valid State of Rhode Island Registered Nurse License, BLS required within one month. Job Summary Responsible for providing quality nursing care to patients of the Cardiac Cath area while utilizing the nursing process, and acts as a liaison between the Cardiac Cath area and the nursing units to provide continuity of care and optimal communication. Duties & Responsibilities Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment, under an approved protocol. Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care. Evaluate patient medical record and assess lab data to ensure patient preparedness for planned procedure. Ensure that necessary paperwork (electronic record) is complete to initiate procedure. Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients. Prepare procedure room to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and maintain a record of equipment used and procedures done. Monitor medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Physician or designee any patient care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences. Assist physician with specialized procedures including, diagnostic, pacemaker insertion, interventional, administering medication, positioning catheters, and removing arterial and venous sheaths. Anticipate and participate in emergency procedures as necessary. Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established Hospital policies and procedures. Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care. Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures. Requirements Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a minimum of three years job-related experience or equivalent is required. Current BLS, ACLS certification and RI State Licensure is also required. Experience must include at least 3 years critical care experience. Knowledge of IABP concepts required.
