Nurses on this unit care for patients experiencing various stages and complications from hematology/oncology diagnosis. Patients may range from the newly diagnosed to those seeking end of life care. Our unit provides the opportunity to develop critical thinking and assessment skills while working with high acuity patients, managing the latest chemotherapy and biotherapy regimes, blood product administrations, pain management, and central line care . In addition to the technical aspects of the position, 8 South provides the unique opportunity to develop and maintain strong relationships with patients and their families throughout the course of their treatment. Scope of work Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety. Schedule: Three days weekly, 8:15AM - 5:00PM SUMMARY The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) I provides comprehensive skilled care as ordered by the attending physician by following the order sets created by the RNCM. The LPN I educates patients and their family members and ensures the safety of the patient. Must have one (1) year of experience with a frail or elderly population. Maintain current Michigan NP License in good standing and fulfills CME requirements The nurse practitioner must comply with PACE guidelines for TB screenings, infection control, BLS and mandatory in-service requirements. The nurse practitioner acts as a role model for professional nursing practice among his/her peers. The nurse practitioner supports and contributes to the development of nursing students as well as students of other health-related disciplines. The ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships. The ability to apply principles of teaching/learning theories in planning and implementing educational activities.
