Each professional nurse assumes primary responsibility and accountability for all nursing care provided by him/her and those directly under their supervision. The University of Chicago Cardiac Surgery department is a robust program for heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), durable Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), bloodless surgeries and other high-risk cases.
