Position Summary: Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license Education, License & Cert: LPN ‐ Must be licensed in the state of practice. Experience: One‐year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required Essential Functions: 1. Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart. Will also interview patient to obtain history allergies, reconciles medication list and records on chart as requested. 2. Write or call Rx after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed. Chart as written in patient’s chart 3. Email, fax or call in any insurance referrals. Follow up phone call with referral number to specialist if requested. 4. Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistant and MOA’s as requested. Answers telephone and performs other clerical functions as necessary (screen calls according to urgency and need). Must train and maintain proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer program training as requested. Attends to exam and procedure rooms, including assurance that proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness. Order medications or clinical supplies for the department as requested. 6. Administers prescribed injections/medications and records them on patient’s chart 7. Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or follow‐up appointments, i.e. Blood work, x‐rays, and enter lab testing as requested. 8. Basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.) 9. Be able to read and review pathology results with patients 10. Setup and tear down sterile fields 11. Basic knowledge of surgical instruments 12. Prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures for the day. 13. Assist surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and Operating Room if necessary 14. Maintain infection control measures including but not limited to proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave 15. Proficient with autoclave sterilization process 16. Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal 17. Assess signs and symptoms of infection and reporting to surgeon and/or provider 18. Hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse 19. May perform high level disinfection, based on departmental equipment. Other Duties: 1. Administers injections and medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with department protocol, regulatory requirements and standards of practice. Prepares and assists providers with various procedures, minor surgeries and other exams as designated by the provider. Performs Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine and strep tests. Collects blood or other laboratory specimens and prepares them for further testing. Authorizes prescription refills as instructed by the provider. Assists with test tracking and monitoring overdue results. Removes sutures and changes dressings on wounds as necessary. Participates in daily huddles with the provider. Serves as a patient experience advocate by being a positive influence at all times when interacting with patients, visitors and colleagues. Communicates with all patients, visitors and colleagues in a professional manner while keeping customer service a top priority. Handles all patient information in a confidential manner according to Lancaster General Health privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures. Performs various front office responsibilities as necessary. May require some regional travel - valid driver's license is required if traveling. Participates in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required by practice location. Perform patient and control testing on unit-specific Point of Care testing, according to Lab regulatory standards. Report results and findings to the Licensed Care worker. Credentials: Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required) Licensed Practical Nurse (Required) Education or Equivalent Experience: Other (Required) Education Specialization: Completion of a LPN educational program Equivalent Experience: •1+ years One (1) to Two (2) years of nursing experience in a primary or specialty care physician’s office preferred. •Prior triage, emergency room, cardiac care, intensive care or other related specialty nursing experience preferred.
