Assists in the performance of admission and physical examinations. Provides the physician or physician assistant with urine toxicology and other laboratory data as they become available. Attends on a punctual basis clinic meeting. Performs any and all tasks necessary to improve the quality of care, to improve the productivity of medical staff, and to improve participants satisfaction with the medical/nursing care they receive. Performs any and all tasks necessary to enhance reimbursement and reduce denials for services rendered. Performs phlebotomy, EKGs, vital signs and assists in urine collection. Administers medication according to hospital policies; understands and monitors age specific data including meds, lab/diagnostic results, etc. Patient Care Responsibilities Applies principles of infection control and safety in the performance of patient care. Communicates effectively with charge nurse and other member of the health care team regarding patient's needs and/or changes in condition. Responds appropriately in crisis situation; able to prioritize. Reports significant unit problems to the charge nurse. Demonstrates understanding and complies with all regulatory agencies; ability to assume charge in the absence of a charge nurse. Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served and complies with the Bill of Rights. Participates in patient teaching and nursing research activities (CQI). Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps. Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct. Other Duties: Orients patient and family to new environment; develops rapport with patients' family and/or significant others. Orients LPNs, Nurses' Aides (Certified Nurse Aides) as required. Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy. Participates on unit committees and in CQI activities as assigned. Participates in patient care conferences and in staff development activities as required. Assists other personnel as needed. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
