During the assigned work period, PCAs will collect patient data, complete personal care of the patient, perform point of care testing such as whole blood glucose, turn & position and/or mobilize patients, and assist with caring for the needs of assigned patients with a focus on progress toward discharge, including during transitions within the acute care stay. The PCA is trained to perform technical procedures such as blood draw and electrocardiography. The Patient Care Assistant promotes the availability of resources for patient care through collaboration with Material's Coordinators for use, stocking, and storage of supplies. The Patient Care Assistant participates in the creation and maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe environment of care. PCAs may also be asked to provide the service of activity companion for patients requiring 11 observation. The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care provided by the caregiving team. They assures that competent, compassionate patient care is uniformly provided to customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient’s health or situation, including vital signs, height and weight, and food and fluid intake and output. Reports abnormal findings to the RN and patient care team. Participates in care planning and the nursing report process. Incorporates patient/family rights to participate in decision making about their care Utilizes standardized techniques for keeping patients and families informed. Provides personal care to patients including bathing, oral care, and skin care Assists the patient with eating and hydration, grooming, dressing, and toileting. Incorporates safe patient handling into basic restorative care such as ambulation, range of motion and use of assistive and prosthetic devices. Employs strategies to promote a clean, orderly, and safe environment. Demonstrates standard and transmission, based precautions and infection control techniques. Provides details related to patient progress toward the achievement of goals and outcomes to the RN. Documents all care in the patient record. Salary Range: $32.50 to $51.00 (based on years of experience) General Medical & Surigcal Unit (5WT): General Medical & Surgical is a 32 bed unit that provides care to patients with: Sepsis, Renal Failure, Pneumonia, Traumatic Brain Injury, UTI, COPD, Diabetes Cellulitis, Pre & Post Surgical, End of Life Care. Medical Renal/Wound Care/Diabetes Unit (7WT): Focus on patients with a primary diabetes, renal, or wound care related diagnosis. Specializing in complex wound care, peritoneal dialysis, and the management of medically stable Diabetic Ketoacidosis and Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar Non-Ketotic Syndrome and intravenous insulin drips. Medical 1 (10WT): Medical 1 is a 32 bed inpatient/observation unit, serving the adult patients that are acutely ill or injured. The unit cares for patients who primarily require general medical care and treatments. The continuum of care extends from the time of admission to preparing the patient for discharge to home, extended care facility, to home with home health care, to post discharge follow-up and, in-house hospice with care directed toward “comfort measures” and end of life. Low volume procedures performed by staff include PCA pain control management, tracheostomy care, tracheal suctioning, set-up and maintenance of chest tubes, and oxygen administration including high flow and Opti-flow oxygen delivery. Medical 2 (8WT): Medical 2 is a 32 bed unit and was created as a new acute, inpatient unit in January of 2021 and has since created a culture of teamwork always striving for safe, quality patient care. The patient population on Medical 2 includes all adults eighteen years and older with any assortment of medical conditions, including but not limited to GI bleed, falls, altered mental status, pain, shortness of breath and any number of infections. With that, Medical 2 is an excellent place for newer nurses and techs to gain a wide variety of experiences and skill sets before pursuing a career in a specialty area or experienced staff to find their forever unit. General Surgical & Short Stay Unit (6ET): General Surgical is a 49 bed unit that provides care to the adult patient, focusing on care including but not limited to surgical and medical patients with urological, major/minor abdominal, Bariatric, and GYN procedures. Orthopedics (9CYT): Located on 9 Courtyard- a large, mostly private room, 36 bed unit and 9 Waldemere, a 32 bed unit. We provide care to adult patients with a focus on elective joint surgeries, pre and post operative fracture management, traumatic fracture management, as well as bone disorders, spine surgeries, complex infections of the bone, and a wide variety of medical and other surgical patients.
