Job Summary Job Summary Assessment/reassessment - Systematically assesses / reassesses the health care needs of individuals; appropriate for specific age groups and patient conditions. Involves patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate. Nursing Diagnosis and Outcomes - Analyzes assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes, involving patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate. Implementation and Coordination of Care - Provides nursing care through interventions to achieve goals and needs using professional judgement guided by current evidence-based practice, regulations and policy. Evaluation - Evaluates patient outcomes by utilizing the critical thinking process and evidence based knowledge to recognize problems, evaluate facts and reach sound conclusions. Professional Practice. Serves as department leader alongside and in absence of Nurse Manager. Maintain ACLS. RN will oversee and promote bedside handoff at shift changes. Reviews referrals to primary/specialty clinics for appropriateness based on established clinic criteria. Reviews all available clinical data to ensure appropriate decision making. May facilitate required clinical and diagnostic work up to ensure that it is completed prior to approving the patient for a specialty appointment. Refers unfunded patients for financial counseling. Determines priority of appointment scheduling, contacting providers and others as needed for overbook approval. Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patients' needs, rights, confidentiality and cultural preferences. Serves as a resource person for specific clinical and patient care issues, helping to negotiate desirable patient outcomes. Serves as a liaison between provider and patient/family to facilitate communication and services. The 9AB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital is a specialized 60-bed unit dedicated to providing high-risk neonates with the level III NICU care they need. The unit is committed to a family-centered developmental care approach, ensuring that both the infants and their families receive the support they need during this critical time. The NICU provides highly technical care, including cardiac, respiratory, and hemodynamic monitoring, as well as ventilator support for neonates requiring specialized intervention. Staffing in the 9AB NICU is carefully structured to ensure optimal care for these vulnerable patients. Orientation for new staff in the NICU follows a Competency-Based Orientation (CBO) model, including an online didactic component. The orientation period ranges from 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the nurse's previous experience. NICU experience is preferred for new hires, but the unit is also open to new graduates who are eager to learn and grow.
