Job Description Harborview Medical Center APP - Inpatient General Surgery (ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant). This opening is for full time, 100% FTE, day shift, with weekend and holidays, no call. Potential for 2-3 nights/month. The APP provides clinical expertise to patients and their families, is a resource person for health care providers, and participates in research and teaching programs. Work is performed in the Inpatient Care Units and Emergency Department 7 days a week with general independence and decision-making responsibility under the general guidance of the attending physicians, chief resident and department lead APP. This inpatient provider for the UWMC-Montlake Postpartum Care Unit would ensure consistency in discharge practices, timely coordination with Pediatrics and flow and help optimize patient care on the unit. This provider would round on low-risk postpartum patients, provide discharge counseling, lactation support and assist with care coordination and decision making for the postpartum management of hypertensive disorders, diabetes, or other medical conditions. The successful candidate would have experience working with low and moderate-risk obstetrical patients, clinical teaching experience, and be able to work collaboratively with our MFM and generalist faculty, CNMs, fellows, and obstetrics/gynecology residents to provide full scope ARNP clinical services for high-risk and low-risk postpartum patients. The department supports a residency program, four fellowship programs, including Gynecologic Oncology, and is a major teaching site for UW medical students. This is a full-time, 12 month (July 1 - June 30) academic position on a yearly appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Position Responsibilities An ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management to Gynecology Oncology patients at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake. The ARNP/PA-C would follow patients during their chemotherapy and radiation, providing medical supportive care, postoperative care, as well as surveillance after completion of treatment. Drives beyond 120 miles as part of extended mileage may be required on special project days. Special projects may include an overnight hotel stay. • Obtains and maintains cross-state license in other states besides home state based on business need. • Collaborates with fellow nurse practitioners to develop best practices to perform work duties efficiently and effectively. • Actively participates in regional meetings. • May prescribe medications and perform procedures as appropriate. • Performs timely medical records documentation in electronic medical record (EMR) computer system. • On occasion, may be required to walk flights of stairs while carrying up to 50 lbs. of equipment. • Engages in practices constituting the practice of medicine in collaboration with and under the medical direction and supervision of a licensed physician to the degree required by state laws. • Local travel required (based upon state/contractual requirements).
