Inform the responsible Critical Care Physician of pertinent subjective and objective data and routine diagnostic and therapeutic measures initiated. a - Documents clinical findings and impressions on the patients record. b - Consults MD when necessary, prior to proceeding with care. c - Orders diagnostic tests. d - Prescribes required medications and treatments. e - Coordinates subspecialty referrals in consultation with the responsible Critical Care physician. f - Provides follow-up instructions for patient and/or family. 2 - Performs special procedures after orientation and documentation of competency. All procedures will be performed in accordance with approved protocols. a - Pelvic Exams b - Suturing 3 - Serves as clinical resource to nursing staff. a - Assists in the development of emergency nursing staff. b - Participates in Quality Monitoring activities. c - Assists in the development of treatment protocols. 4 - Evaluates patients in regard to discharge or admission in order to improve the flow of patients. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Physician-in-Chief for Medicine, receiving oversight and supervision from a consulting Intensivist, perform diversified duties in being responsible for the care of patients who are located in the Intensive Care Unit, assigned under direction of individual attending Physicians under the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner practices. Provide a variety of inpatient care and services, participation as required in scheduled daily rounds, perform initial history and physical, consultation and/or follow-up care, preparation of patients for transfer or discharge, under the supervision of individually assigned Physician as part of daily activities. Adheres to all quality-of-care measure and patient safety standards. Participates in scheduled night and weekend call. Qualifications Physician Assistant: Bachelors Degree in a related field is required. Graduate of an A.M.A.-approved Physician Assistant program is required. Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Physician Assistant is required. Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science Degree in Nursing is required. Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Current Massachusetts R.N. registration is required.
