Description Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our outpatient General Cardiology-Oncology department. Schedule: M-F, 4x10s (day off TBD) no nights/weekends/holidays/on-call Essential Functions : Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems. Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population. Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise. Provides direct clinical care to patients. Prescribes/orders medications, therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges. Evaluates patients to determine their need for further health care. Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families. Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and/or procedures performed for which the Licensed Advanced Practice Provider is responsible. Refers to other disciplines as appropriate. Consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise. Integrates research based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making. Exemplifies a professional image in appearance, manner and presentation. Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community. SCOPE : Under direct supervision, diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illness related to oncology/hematology, independently or as part of a healthcare team; focused on health promotion and disease prevention. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyzes and interprets patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses Diagnoses and/or treats chronic or acute health care disease and illness Recommends diagnostic or therapeutic interventions with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, simplicity, acceptability, adherence, efficacy, etc. Prescribes medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized basing dosages, routes, and frequencies on such patient characteristics such as age and gender Educates patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' circumstances Orders, performs, or interprets the results of diagnostic tests, such as complete blood counts (CBCs), electrocardiograms (EKGs), and radiographs (x-rays) Maintains complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks Develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines Detects and responds to adverse drug reactions, particularly to vulnerable populations Studies current literature, talks with colleagues, and participates in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in nursing Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances, such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, herbal remedies, etc. Provides patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability Performs additional duties as requested or assigned Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner OR Physician Assistant program required Active TN state license required M inimum 0-3 years of prior experience in oncology and at least one (1) year of APP experience highly preferred. A Fred Hutch Cancer Center ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management of multiple service lines of adult oncology patients at our community site at Northwest Hospital. They will actively coordinate the complex care of cancer patients undergoing both systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiation therapy. The incumbent will manage side-effects of these therapies, order appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies; prescribe medications and refer patient to other specialists as necessary. The incumbent may provide for post-treatment cancer patients follow-up visits for the medically indicated period after completion of treatment. The incumbent will also provide psychological support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching and refer patients to community agencies and other resources to promote optimal adjustment and functioning. This position requires the ability to lead other clinical staff, be accountable for the work required in this position, the ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment, and the relentless pursuit of excellent patient centered care. This clinic provides a broad range of services including GI, Lung, GU, Breast, and Hematologic Malignancies and Radiation therapy. Responsibilities Performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues. Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research Provides patient, caregiver, and peer education Communicates effectively with the teams Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees Qualifications Required: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required. Washington state licensure required. DEA required at time of credentialing ACLS required within 3 months of start date. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Preferred: 1 year of ARNP or PA-C experience in Medical Oncology preferred The annual base salary range for this position is from $126,984.00 to $200,678.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
