Description The Clinical Program Manager is responsible for the implementation and conduct of clinical trials with investigational anti-cancer agents in the Cancer Institute. The Candidate must have expert knowledge of cancer as a disease process, cancer treatment modalities, and the process of conducting clinical research. The CPM will follow a caseload of patients in the ambulatory setting and assist in the administration and plan of the research program. This position will be primarily assigned to our Downtown Clinical Research Programs which operate at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Chelsea but is expected to move throughout the health care system based on patient needs. Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities: Provides exemplary patient care while ensuring the protocol is conducted in a high-quality manner and clinical research documentation is inspection ready. Responsible for coordinating study enrollment, establishing a database/case load of patients, protocol treatment and follow-up care for patients participating in clinical trials. Responsible for ensuring protocol adherence and accurate source data. Implement the standards for research protocols in compliance with regulatory, institutional, and external agencies Collaborates with attending physicians to identify and recruit patients eligible for clinical trial. Oversees scheduling of patient laboratory and radiologic assessments, admissions, and clinic visits and supports investigators with the informed consent process and documentation. Evaluate, treat and/or triage untoward reactions according to the standard of care and protocol guidelines, prescribe and manage supportive care medications. Assures the primary nursing staff understands how to administer investigational agents per specifications of the protocol. Ensures accurate and timely research documentation and works with ancillary departments (i.e. infusion, radiology, etc.) to ensure research is integrated into standard clinical operations. Education Responsibilities: Develops educational content and delivers nurse-to-nurse education, specifically the education of Nursing Staff regarding specific protocol requirements, treatment administration of investigational agents, coordination of timed or sequenced events (i.e. serial vitals) and the accurate capture of clinical data for the purposes of the study and patient monitoring. Teach, coach and mentor junior staff; serves as preceptor Provides routine and ongoing education to patients and families; serves as patient advocate Quality: Reports unexpected and unanticipated events to institutional offices and committees (i.e. Data safety monitoring, institutional review board, etc.) Facilitates in/external monitoring and auditing; leads quality improvement and process improvement projects Responsible for ensuring compliance with core measures and national standards are continuously met and collaborates with key departments, Administrators, Nursing, Medical and Quality Leadership, and Clinical Staff, to coordinate such activities. Assists in development and execution of action plans to support compliance with measures indicators and provides support and educational resources to departments and services relative to core measures, quality assessment, and improvement processes. Administrative Responsibilities: Establish and implement effective recruitment and outreach strategies to promote access, inclusion and participation in clinical trials. Participates in the collection, compilation, and analysis of clinical program activity data and reports on unit productivity. Provides coordination and leadership in the execution of day-to-day program activities, as appropriate to program objectives and areas of expertise. Oversees the collection, compilation, and analysis of clinical program activity data. Monitor clinical trial portfolio and enrollments to identify opportunities to grow research program. May supervise licensed or unlicensed staff to ensure protocol compliance, accurate data collection and sample acquisition Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required. Master’s Degree preferred; or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP). 5 years directly related experience (some supervisory preferred) New York State License with current registration as a registered professional nurse. In collaboration with the Associate Director for Research, clinical trials investigators, and TCC CCTO Administrative Directors; this candidate is responsible for the implementation and conduct of clinical trials with investigational anti-cancer agents in the Cancer Institute. The Candidate must have expert knowledge of cancer as a disease process, cancer treatment modalities, and the process of conducting clinical research. The Candidate will follow a caseload of patients in the ambulatory setting and assist in the administration and plan of the research program. The Clinical Program Manager will report into the CCTO’s Administrative Director. Responsibilities Administrative Responsibilities: Supervises Clinical Research Coordinator positions and other CRNs to ensure protocol compliance, accurate data collection and sample acquisition. Develops educational programs for the Nursing Staff regarding specific protocols. Manage clinical trials portfolio and assure timely regulatory start-up of protocols. Monitor accruals and identify opportunities to grow research program. Liaison with industry sponsors and CROs. Liaison with CCTO office (including pre-award, post award and QAP). Clinical Research Responsibilities: Responsible for coordinating study enrollment, establishing a database of patients, protocol treatment and follow-up care for patients participating in clinical trials. Collaborates with primary nursing staff to provide nursing care to patients receiving therapy on a clinical research trial. Assists the principal investigator in the process of assuring adequate informed consent. Assures the primary nursing staff understands how to administer investigational agents per specifications of the protocol. Assures that blood sampling and specimen preparation is accomplished per specifications of the protocol; and monitors test results, as appropriate Documents clinical study and therapy in patient’s chart and all other databases as required. In collaboration with the Nursing Staff, assesses patients on study for complications related to therapy. Communicates observations/findings to attending physicians and in medical records are required. Ensures that drug dosing and sample collections times are recorded on study worksheets. Provides in-service training and serves as a resource to other clinical personnel including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health care professionals. Communicates with referring and affiliated physicians to ensure documentation of clinical findings throughout the clinical trial. Collaborates with attending physicians to identify and recruit patients eligible for clinical trial. Establishes and maintains database of prospective patients for clinical trials within CTMS. Oversees scheduling of patient laboratory and radiologic assessments, admissions, and clinic visits. Establishes mechanisms to ensure complete and accurate data collection and documentation. Description Job Title - Nurse Practitioner- Inpatient Oncology - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day A nurse practitioner (NP) as described in Title VIII, Article 139 section 6910 of the New York Education Law is a RN who has earned a separate certification as an NP through advanced clinical nursing education in a distinct specialty area of practice. Nurse practitioners are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patients condition that falls within their specialty area of practice. NOTE: Medical orders, progress notes and treatments plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. PRINCIPLES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care. Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. Develops the plan of care based on the diagnoses and individual patient needs: Records, reports, and interprets the clients responses to the plan of care. Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement. Completes the Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or the Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff for continued credentialing status. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Supports the mission, vision, philosophy and goals of the Department of Nursing and the MSHS. Demonstrates accountability for own nursing practice. Considers ethical issues of professional nursing practice and adheres to the code of ethics. Demonstrates a humanistic, kind, and caring attitude in the delivery of health care. Serves as a resource person to nurses and other health team members. Participates in peer review. Incorporates research findings in clinical practice. Is a graduate of New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent OR is certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination. b. Has completed a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or the equivalent AND has been instructed in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course). c. Has a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3600 hours experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner. OR Has a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in clinical practice in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital. If there is a documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3600 practice hours.
