Develops and reviews and revises a plan of care, based upon the assessment of patient's needs. Implements medical and nursing orders per plan of care and documents appropriately. Evaluates patient's response to care. Engages in patient and family teaching as appropriate. Oversees operating room staff assigned for providing patient care. Collaborates with leadership to assure the integration of the ANA’s Scope & Standards of Practice, and AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurse) recommendations, assuring that these standards ands recommendations are identified as the measurement criteria for nursing practice on the unit. Unit specific orientation and ongoing training and competencies are assigned based on department role, scope of services, and organizational standards. Ability to assess, evaluate, explain, teach, problem solve using critical thinking; and perform calculations. Charge Nurse 0.9 FTE, Nights, 1800 start, Monday through Wednesday As an integral member of the health care team, the Charge RN functions within the scope of practice as defined by the State and the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice. Responsible for the planning, organization and delivery of safe and timely patient and family care for all patients on the unit during each shift or for providing safe direct patient care. Applies the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate interactions with staff, patients and families of all ages. Applies the nursing process to the oversight and coordination of patient care for entire unit patient population during assigned shift. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic plans by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc. In accordance with House Bill 1155 (effective January 1, 2020), the following areas have clinical unpredictable needs and as a result will have a call obligation within their nursing positions: Apheresis, Cardiac Cath Lab, Dialysis, ECMO, Home Care Services, Imaging Services (including GI Procedures), Perioperative Services, and Transplant Coordinators. Required Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Minimum one year nursing experience is required. Preference will be given to those with current experience in the area hiring e.g.: Peri Operative Services, PICU etc. and in pediatrics. Required Credentials Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions. Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers. ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans. This role is expected to float among other RHS facilities and perform like competencies of their primary role. Team member will be expected to stay late to complete cases as needed. RN must maintain competencies unique to Cardiothoracic surgery to include assisting, anticipating, scrubbing, and preparing for complex Cardiothoracic surgery cases. Responsible for high acuity, advanced Cardiothoracic surgery open, minimally invasive and robotics. Collaborative with UVA affiliation. What you will do Demonstrates ability to assess Cardiothoracic patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served in the Perioperative Services units/departments (see unit specific competencies and equipment checklists). Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care. Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care. Will round on the patient pre-operatively and post operatively to enhance the patient experience. Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents. Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need. Responsible for emergency supplies, processes related to Cardiothoracic surgery to include frequent drills. Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. Document required information for registry and antibiotics and beta blocker timing. Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures.
