RESPONSIBILITIES Assist physicians with medical procedures in office. Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS At least one year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office with the ability to perform venipunctures preferred. - Valid Florida driver’s license is needed for travel to the clinics. - High school diploma or GED is required and will be required to produce at time of hire. Educates and counsels patients/families regarding their health care, including routine health maintenance, as applicable. May provide education and instruction to residents and students. Performs or assists with procedures of higher complexity in clinic or inpatient unit. Monitors and manages invasive and/or medical devices and placement of devices within scope of practice. May manage care of pre/post-operative and pre/post-procedural patients. Formulates comprehensive health management plans for high acuity, more complex patients in collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals to include progress notes, narrative discharge summaries, consultations, etc. Facilitates patient participation in making health care decisions. Enters pertinent clinical information in the patient's medical record in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with established compliance billing guidelines. Documents and closes open encounters, MyChart messages, and other EMR communications in accordance with institutional requirements. Call coverage may be required specific to departmental needs. Obtains patient histories, performs physical examinations and/or diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as well as orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests for patients with high level of complexity. Reviews, prescribes and/or recommends medications and treatments to patients. May provide education and instruction. Provides recommendations and education to physician office staff commensurate with scope of practice in scheduling of procedure(s). *Reviews and evaluates outpatient orders received from the physician and/or physician staff; uses clinical judgment /critical thinking to follow-up on appropriateness and completeness of physician orders as they relate to procedure(s) ordered. *Receives and documents verbal physician orders. Screens/determines appropriateness of level of care and admission status; notifies appropriate department(s) based on assessment of patient needs. Enters order sets for procedures while coordinating with physician offices and performing departments. Reviews for accuracy to ensure all orders needed are entered and available. Documents pre-certification/authorization/referral information when applicable. *Prepares and provides patients with an estimate, if one is warranted, for their expected services. Collects and/or counsels on expected payment due. *Keeps Patient Service Center and Scheduling Manager informed of issues related to procedures including but not limited to: necessary questionnaire revisions, updates related to departmental requests and need for new or revised procedure(s) build. *Responsible for preceptoring and /or resourcing of peers. *Assesses employee competencies and level of performance; cross trains employees into specialized areas and documents training. Collaborates with management to plan and communicate changes to the work group. *Serves as a liaison in building and maintaining professional relationships between physicians, physician office staff and other health care personnel. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
